8310 or 8320 -- need your opinions!
Please Login to Remove!
Hey guys,
I have the Red 8310 -- I still have a few days to do the 30day exchange....should I go for the 8320? I dont want the bold.
I would be able to use the wifi on my campus, but not positive if i NEED it -- in the same respect, I don't use the GPS either (on the 8310).
My main thought is that I have about 2yrs before I can do another upgrade, so I sorta wanted the newest possible curve, so it isn't completely obsolete within the next few months. Is it worth the extra $70?
opinions please! I'll be going to the at&t store tomorrow morning to decide. is it even available in stores?

The 8320 is not new, been out on T-Mobile for a long time.
You need to decide WiFi or GPS. The is a new Curve coming to AT&T soon the 8900 which will have WiFi and GPS.

New for AT&T, though...
if there was a definite date on the 8900 coming out, I would have waited for it, but knowing RIM and AT&T, it can be 2010 before we see them in stores...
am i wrong?
Do you think the Wifi is worth the extra $70-75 though? I dont use the GPS as of now...the only thing i've used it for was google maps, being able to tell me where i was within 3 meters, rather than 1400 meters...and it wasn't all that impressive haha -- I have the GPS in my car for directions, don't need my phone to give them to me too...
more opinions please!

Why don't you want the bold ? My Girls been using the 8320 on TMO for over a year and she wont change. The WiFi is good on TMO for UMA but as far as ATT goes the WiFi is only for downloads I was told.

First, not really looking to spend $300 -- especially because i'll most likely end up doing an early upgrade to the 8900.
Second, a bunch of my friends have the bold, and I don't really like the way it fits in my hand for some reason. Still a real nice phone though

I would go with the 8310 for the GPS! If you're in range of wifi wouldn't you just use a computer? I personally have the 8330 which has the 3G CDMA network and GPS so it's the best of both words... Can't get speeds like that with AT&T unless you pickup the bold though :( I know because I just switched from ATT (8110) to Sprint (8330) due to coverage issues in my new area.

I'd definitely go with the GPS. Windows Live Search is my most commonly used program. From finding movie times to traffic and obviously yellow pages, this program is invaluable and since it's free you really can't go wrong.

To be honest...I moved to the iphone from an 8100 and disliked every single thing about the iphone except the app store...so I brought it back within my 30 days which is my main point, you can return your phone within 30 and retain your renawal discount....its been two months now and I have my two year discount still...so be sure what you what to try out but have a solid second option becuase you will be able to get your discount still if you press the issue

My .02 cents worth,
First of all, pick the carrier that works for you. If both T-Mobile and at&t have service where you need it then I would personally choose T-Mobile and the 8320 with WiFi. You can add GPS to the 8320 giving it the best of both worlds. You can't add WiFi to the 8310.
With T-Mobile it's more than just data with WiFi, it's Voice and Data. T-Mobile has a feature called UMA. It allows the 8320 to connect to the T-Mobile network through a WiFi internet connection, that's Voice and Data. Here is a good example. I live out in the rural part of the County. The nearest town down the street has 0 cell phone service from any carrier. There is only two businesses/stores so I simply flip on my WiFi in the parking lot and pick up some open WiFi router in one of the businesses there and presto, I am the only one with a full functioning cell phone.
If you are looking to stay with at&t and just unlocking an 8320 then the above doesn't apply.

Yea, i'd be sticking with AT&T, not looking at T-Mobile. My options are 8310 ATT or 8320 ATT

haha merry christmas.
Matt -- what do you mean by having more than 30 days to do the exchange? From what I can tell, after 30 days from your upgrade, your only resource is warranty exchange...
while i know there are always exceptions, i'm pretty sure at&t retail stores are under the impression that there are few ways around this policy

I vote for 8320. I am using now both 8320 and 8900.
I also tried 8310 already. After a few months, i decide to change to 8320

If you really don't care whether you have WiFi or GPS, I'd probably just keep what you already have then and not mess with the exchange. Not worth the hassle or the extra $70 if you really don't care.
(P.S. I may be -- make that am -- biased. I have the red AT&T 8310 which I got to use on TMO. For me personally, I think GPS is more useful and the AT&T crimson 8310 is the best color I've seen on any phone.)
Besides, obsolete is in the eyes of the beholder. To some people, a phone is obsolete the day it is released -- for example to many, I'm sure all curves are now obsolete since the Bold and Storm have been released. To others, as long as it does what we need it to do, it's still great. Buy what makes sense at the time you buy it and quit worrying about obsolete unless you have unlimited funds to spend on phone upgrades. And waiting for the next phone to be released before purchasing makes no sense...since whatever it is you are waiting for, something else will be announced by the time you actually buy it. So you could wait till heck freezes over and you'll still be waiting for the newest phone to be released.

I'd agree. If you really need others to tell you what you prefer I'd guess that you don't feel strongly one way or the other. Don't fix what ain't broken.
Personally, I find GPS a lot more useful than WiFi but as you can see -- it's a subjective judgment call that you have to make for yourself. Personally, I can't stand dealing with additional devices, their batteries, accessories, etc. I'd much rather have GPS built-in than deal with a separate GPS unit or a BT GPS puck.

sorry, i forgot to mention that I've been through 5 8310's because of certain defects (messed up vibrate, extremely washed out screen/messed up backlight, dust under the screen). I was thinking that if I move to the 8320, I may not have these problems...
what ya think?
