Thumbs up Great release for roaming in Beijing

Please Login to Remove!

I installed the EastAsia version of 4.6.0.304, it is the best version so far for roaming in Beijing China using the AT&T BB unlimited international plan. In Automatic mode it stays on 3G from Unicom and smoothly switches to 2G (GPRS) only rarely when necessary without interrupting service. Prior to this I was using .301 from SinTel with poor results and eventually had to manual lock to ChinaMobil 2G (EDGE) for reliable service. The previous AT&T release was even worse.

It's on the official AT&T download site, just below the multi-language version.

Thing I noticed after .304 - could be something else but If I quickly save something like change a task date or add a memo, and then pull the battery moments later, those changes I made are lost. Is this normal? Is there some sort of "timeout" for saving items prior to reset?

Thanks.

Yes. Just follow the instructions and be sure to remove the vendor.xml file.

Thanks. Didn't realize they did this for AT&T since I haven't downloaded an official OS from them in awhile. Guess I didn't realize they had a EastAsia version of the OS.

I've just upgraded to this. So far I haven't felt a difference... But I did notice that the Software Platform downgraded from OS .303 to 4.0.0.247 from 4.0.0.248.

Actually I did run into a problem... My youtube doesn't seem to work anymore... I get the message "Cannot find web address. Verify that this web address is valid".

I changed my APN to internet.com and still doesn't work.

Default SOS problem

After upgrading it to this version from the last AT&T update (since pulled) my unit goes to 'SOS' more often at work. I wiped it and reloaded just to be sure and still the same. Battery pull couple of times. It gets the network if I pull battery or turn off and on under Connection -> Mobile Networks.

Anyone else getting this?

From the few posts here, it appears this new release is fraught with problems. JSanders and other experts on here, what's your take?

thanks

I am downloading this version now (from website since OTA doesn't work for me yet), but I can say is, I have the first version that has visual voicemail from ATT and I often get SOS when my phone has been in a crummy service area for long periods of time. For example, after work, I go to the gym, and obviously my phone is oin my pocket which is in my slacks locked in the locker. There is terrible signal in the locker room. When I leave and on my way home, I uisually phone ahead to give my wife the headsup im on my way. Usually, I have to go into the wireless options turn the wireless (network) radio off/on and it works. But it takes a LONG time to get back to 3G. It cycles gprs GPRS edge EDGE 3g 3G but takes a long time for each one until it finally gets back to normal.

What is causing this? I never seen this only after I leave the gym. Does the new version fix this?

The previous .297 AT&T release has better memory management than this .304 even with the memory cleaner enabled. Also 4-5 minutes for a reboot is much too long. Anyone else considering downgrading?

From the sound of things this update seems like an epic fail. I wonder what they "updated"

But anyways...It seems as .297 has been very good compaired to this one.

I did this upgrade and now I have several questions.

First I downloaded 4.6.0.304 and installed it per the instructions. That worked fine.
Now for my questions.

1. After I install, should I remove the OS using the Windows Add/Remove programs feature since I already installed it to my BB? I mean do I need it anymore and is it going to confuse the DM if it is still there?

2. Now, when I open DM it immediately pops up a box saying "Updated versions of the applications listed below are available for your device." It also lists "BlackBerry 4.6 Core Applications" as the application update that it found. Is it finding the new 4.6.0.304 OS that I still have installed?

3. Why do the install instructions have us click on the Loader.exe file instead of going through the DM and letting it find the new OS and upgrade that way?

4. In DM, if I click on Application Loader and then click on Update Software, it then lists 5 versions of the OS like this:

"BlackBerry 4.6(Current) 4.6.0.304"
"BlackBerry 4.6 for 9000 (Current) 4.6.0.304"
"BlackBerry 4.6(Downgrade) 4.6.0.297"
"BlackBerry 4.6(Downgrade) 4.6.0.167"
"BlackBerry 4.6(Downgrade) 4.6.0.167"

Where did it get these choices from?

Basically, I just want to know what to do after I click on the Loader.exe file and do the upgrade. Do I just leave the OS installed on my PC or do I delete it, etc...

Thanks...

Did the update OTA a few days ago and everything seems to be running fine for me. I also gained a few megabytes of memory. I haven't had a long enough to determine if battery life has gotten any better... but it definitely hasn't got any worse for me.
