Default Comcast Email on the BB

Please Login to Remove!

I have a user who wants to recieve their personal comcast email on their BlackBerry. I am currently using a BES 4.0 to forward work email from their GroupWise accounts to the device.

Not sure of this can be accomplished. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks.

Yes, it can be done. What carrier does the user have for their Blackberry service? I have Nextel and was able to create an account on the Sprint/Nextel website. Once that account is created, the user can set up their external email account to be forwarded to the Blackberry. I'm doing this with 2 Charter email accounts on my (work) 7100i Blackberry.

I realize that this is somewhat old, but I thought I'd add in that this is done via the Blackberry Internet Service (BIS, for short). Each carrier has its own gateway to create a user account under BIS. Once it's created, then the user can either forward emails to the BIS account (generally, the account gets the email address <username>@<carrier>.blackberry.com), or they can "integrate" the other email address into it.

If you do the latter option, you submit the email account information to the BIS service, and it will then regularly (about every 15-20 minutes or so) reach out to the other account, pull in any new email messages, and then send them to the blackberry device associated with that BIS account.

This shouldn't interfere with BES service, although the blackberry will then have the option of sending a given email via either service opion. Let me know if you need more details.

Wirelessly posted (8700c: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

Much easier to have the comcast account forward to the BIS. Make sure you set your "sent from" and "reply to" address on the BIS site to the comcast address.

It kind of depends, stinsonddog. Although I haven't run into one so far, I'm told some email services don't forward attachments (technically, they're redirecting, not forwarding, from what I'm told).

Comcast does forward attachments, but I can't open most of them on my BB7520.

I have comcast forwarded to gmail along with 5 other accounts that I keep, I thne use filters to forward to my BB based on priorities I have set. Any that I do not forward, I simply read from home in the evening. It works fast and leaves me a copy at the gmail level for referrence.

Yes, Comcast does. But something about how the BIS "pulls" in the email to send to the BB doesn't retrieve the whole attachment. The two accounts I've tested this with had Comcast integrated for retrieval of the message. Not forwarded from Comcast. I may try that to see what happens.
