Default BES: Activating replacement BlackBerry

Please Login to Remove!

Dear BlackBerry forum,

I'm having a issue regarding the activation of a new BlackBerry to replace a old one which is starting to break.

I'm very much still a newbie in terms of BlackBerry related issues, but since our previous IT person has left the company, I've been left to deal with my boss's BlackBerry.

Old model is 8120 Pearl and I'm trying to activate a 8900 Curve.

Now, I've done this before...but on the same device so I don't know if there's something else to consider here.

Am I right in saying that, all I need to do is go onto our BES server, right click on my boss's username, and click "Generate and E-Mail Activation Password" then on the BlackBerry device, Options > Advanced Options > Enterprise Activation > Enter the e-mail address and the Activation Password that's displayed on the BES Server 'Wireless Activation"? (Obviously, I'm trying to do this while he's in a meeting to avoid inconveniencing him )

So far, I've only tried his e-mail and his Windows password but that never worked.

Do I need to do anything else? BES server still registers his old Device Pin...I don't have to remove user/kill handset or something do I before activating new device?

The password that is being looked for is the one generated by the previous step and is in the users mail box.

Easiest way to do it is to right click the user and select "Set Activation Password", this way you get to pick the password. I use a single character as it is only for this step anyway.

Once you have set, and more importantly, know the activation password follow the steps on the device.

Aw man,

My boss must've entered the Activation password wrong several times in a row.

Tried both windows password and activation password.

I suppose the 1 character password made it much simpler.

Thanks again for your help DavidAdams

Glad to have helped.

That's why i use the single character, very difficult to get it wrong.

i also tend to use the LHS of a suretype key, again one less thing to muck up.

Default Replacement BB Activation

Hi everyone,

I'm new to BES too and I need to connect and assign a new BB device (9000 Bold) to a user on our exchange server. I've set him up in BES and have activated the BB with our telco (i can make calls from it), but it's coming up with the following error when I try to 'Send a password' and Enterprise Activate the BB.

"Activation request failed. A service connection is unavailable."

Do I need to physically connect the BB to the server via usb like in the old days to assign it to a new user?

Fixed. Don't need a cable, it just took an hour to activate.

Thanks
