pricing for 8300?
Please Login to Remove!
so, with the long awaited release of the 8300 series (whenever it happens, that is), how much are we looking to shell out for one of these?
if the new 8800s from cingular retail for around $500-600, then how much will the 8300 "baby bear" (camera, but no wifi or gps) cost?
and, how much of a price difference will "papa bear" (camera with wifi/gps) when compared to "baby"??
thanks in advance for your insights.

Yeah but in the photoshop age you can't trust even what pictures reveal. I know one of the pictures I've seen with a T-Mo splash screen looked really fake to me because the other pictures of the 8300 had the AT&T theme or Vodaphone branding, etc...but this picture just had a white T-Mo splash screen that doesn't even look like it is on the actual screen. It looks like (IMHO) that it *could have* easily been photoshopped on there. Here they are:
8300 that obviously has AT&T theme and is running on Cingular network:
"T-Mo 8300":
I'm sorry but that looks awfully fake to me. There's no reflections on the screen at all.

The 8300 does exist, I know cause I've used one like many people out there, the big question (besides release date) is what version of the 83XX is going to have what features.

If you would have looked in my galleries, you would have seen countless other pictures of the 8300, and 8320 in that same setting...I especially never mentioned that was a real T-Mobile branded unit. Ofcourse it's edited.

I did look at the galleries...is there any reason to believe this will even be released by T-Mo first?

There's no reason to believe that anyone will release any 83XX first. No carrier has announced an official release date.

Don't care who releases it first, just as long as it comes to Cingy.

Of course no one has announced an official release date. At that point I suppose the speculation can end. Has RIM released anything official on the 8300?

No doubt about Cingular being first. AND there is little doubt about it being only a very short time now. I would tell how I know this but I promissed my grandma I would not tell on her.
All kidding aside, the people I know that are way up in Cingular/ATT told me it is now very close. We spent the day sailing and even though my eyes were burning from the smoke from the fires in South Georgia, there was no mistaking the 8300 he carried on his belt!

So why are there people saying the same thing about T-Mo? I think they may be getting the 83XX and the 88XX confused.

After speaking to a couple people from RIM (granted they are in the indirect support channels so take this with however large a grain of salt you wish) the 8300 IS close. 3-5 weeks is best estimate. They did not know which carrier would be releasing it first, just that it was in the final phase of carrier testing. Again, this is what i was told and classifies as complete speculation. I personally would like to see Tmo launch the 8300 in the second or third week of may, just because they didnt roll out the 8800 to all their stores. to me, this would seem a logical move for them, but hey, whens the last time a company made a move that was completely logical in this business

Go TMo! Time for T-Mobile to get an exclusive on a new Blackberry model. I'm not saying this is a reason to believe they're going to be first, I'm just rooting like hell for it!

The economics favor Cingular getting the 83xx first over T-Mo, or for that matter, any new BlackBerry device.
If you are releasing something new, would you rather go with Cingular or T-Mo, knowing that Cingular offers you over double the subscribers, a larger reach of network, more retail outlets, and hence, far more potential customers. Add in the fact that Cingular will give you more marketing strength, and will probably pay you more for any desired exclusivity.
I still believe that the only reason why T-Mo got the Pearl first was because being the first of its kind in the BlackBerry world, RIM wanted to play it safe and try it out on T-Mo first. The T-Mo launch of the Pearl was kind of a soft launch.
So in general, it makes more sense for RIM to offer any new BB on Cingular/ATT first over T-Mo.
