Default Blackberry support for Linux coming!

Please Login to Remove!

An open source project, called 'barry' has been started, a link to the project site:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/barry

Obviously has a long way to go, but it appears it has functionality already!

How many others are looking for Linux support for your Blackberry?

I'm also VERY happy to see this. There needs to be a BBDM type program for Linux. Sync4J is nice but we need to be able to do backups like BBDM so this is a step in the right direction.

Me too! Once it gets to Linux, an OS X port can't be too far away.

Ditto.

I'd pay for this. RIM, are you listening?

I would definitely love to be able to sync my Blackberry in Linux. The only two reasons I consistently boot into Windows anymore have been to play games and to sync my Blackberry.

A link to Barry:

"Linux users who also use a BlackBerry xxx8482; now have an option for managing their BlackBerry directly from Linux.

Barry is an Open Source Linux application that will allow synchronization, backup, restore and program management for BlackBerry xxx8482; devices.

Default Modem support?

I would love to see full Linux support. One of the main things I'm interested in is the ability to use my 7100T as a modem in Linux. I haven't been able to get it to work at all. I've tried the open-source program GPRSEC - GPRS Easy Connect, but it didn't seem to work with my phone.

Anyone else tried to use their blackberry in linux as a modem?

Funambol ( http://www.funambol.com) with funambol 3 is porting an open source push solution, device indipendent.
Look on their site.

Good on the Linux community for getting this done. However, shame on RIM for not supporting Linux from the start.

The sooner companies grow some berries and start writing for Linux, the sooner Linux will hit the mainstream and put a dent in Microsoft's absurd licensing structure.

Yes, I am interested in this as well. BBDM is one of only a few reasons why I have a vmware guest of XP on my linux laptop.
