Man you guys sure were thorough in your thoughts about the 9700! I wrote a review that pretty much covers all of that, but I'm leery about giving you guys the link. Wanna make sure I'm not spamming too much on here.

I will say, however, that I think the phone is one of the best phones to ever be released. It's practically perfect in every way!

My Curve 8320 with TMO started fritzing out and I hung on long enough to pick up the new Motorola Cliq on the 7th... For what it is, the Cliq is great BUT as a long time BBerry user, it wasn't very intuitive when it came to setting up contacts from the bberry, ergos were off for one handed operation / finding contacts while driving, voice dialer was iffy - so I used my remorse period to get the Bold 2. Wow. Honestly I was not unhappy with the cliq - it's just that it's strengths: browser, android apps, social networking - while very cool and fun, weren't really how I use a phone. Fun for a week, then the reality set in.

I am pleasantly surprised at how much more I like the Bold after a day than my 8320. Excellent product. Set up in no time. Very plug and play. Fast, intuitive and great ergos.

Kudos to RIM. Outstanding product.

Because the search feature of this forum is weak, I used Google to search it instead and read a cached version of this thread that was a few hours old and therefore did not include ifonline's post. I ill-advisedly took the risk that nothing new on point had been posted in this thread the intervening hours, given that MrKyoo's query seemed off-topic (not about first impressions of 9700, but about tips on its use) and had been ignored in the subsequent 8 posts and that I had already spent time reviewing other BBF threads and was under extreme time-pressure. I edited my post within 3 min., having found the answer, so as to ensure nobody would spend time answering my question. In any case, thanks for your explanation. No disrespect intended.

overall make/craftsmanship - good quality, good looks.. better than my old G1
keyboard - kinda small buttons but im getting use to it
trackpad - trackpad is cool, better than the trackball,
3G coverage - i get good 3g in VA
battery life - FREAKING AWSOME !!!! ALMOST A WHOLE DAY WITHOUT DYING ON ME LIKE THE G1 THAT HAD TO GET CHARGED EVERY 6 HRS
camera - takes killer pictures with flash, digicam quality
screen - small screen but it will have to work for now
reception - great reception
phone sound quality - sound quality is great

its close to the 8900 in experience so I'm used to it
3G - I can get this while I'm at work but not at home which is ok since
the UMA kicks in then so I'm good (UMA saves my bacon at school also)
Visual Vioice Mail - nice although I dont get a lot of vm since I'm attached at
the hip with the thing
Screen - also similar to 8900 although it seems to catch finger prints more

the T-Mobile 9700 only have two options for the network (2G and 3G).
I have the unbranded 9700, and it has three options (2G, 3G, 2G&3G).

just got one. it is much better then my old 8900. No more truck ball , 40 numbers in call log not 20 , much faster and the best thing beside 3g THE KEYBOARD ! Yes !

I just upgraded to the 9700 from the 8900. So far the phone seems like a winner. I do have a couple questions for others who purchased the 9700 who were coming from the 8900:

1. Side by side the 8900 is noticeably louder. 10 on the 9700 is equal to medium on 8900. 5 and lower on 9700 and you can barely hear it. (are you all noticing the same thing?)

2. I can't seem to get many of my old apps. (telenav, the free quickpull, etc....) I assume this is due to the new software and compatibility.

Probably the best keyboarded phone at the moment.
alot of criticism of the browser, but it seems to work fine for me. I wouldn't want to browse at length on such a small screen anyway. And there is always operamini as a free alternative for difficult to render pages.
i have had a nokia E71 and many other keyboarded phones. The B 9700 is the lightest, best looking, most compact, one of the best keyboards, sharp scren, still the best email and messeging experience.
app have now ramped up quite alot as well.
HTC Touch Pro 2 is still the supreme keyboarded phone, but if you don't want the bulk, the 9700 is unbeatable.

Got mine a couple of days ago, switching from a 9000

overall make/craftsmanship: looks good, especially the side buttons are a big improvement over the 9000. Phone is just the right size
keyboard: a bit small compared to the 9000, but I guess I will get used to it. Just miss the red highlights for numbers and the speaker
trackpad: Great! Turned down the sensitivity a little and won't look back at the stupid trackball
3G coverage: so far, so good
battery life: never got my 9000 to last longer than a day, 9700 seems much better
camera: tested it once, looks OK, but that's not a priority for me
screen: crisp, nice colors, a bit small
reception: so far, so good
phone sound quality: OK
Misc: Sad that my favorite theme doesn't work anymore :(

Excellent device coming from an 8900.

The track pad is also, I didn't even change the sensitivity. The build is very solid.

2 complaints.

My 8900 speaker is better.

My bezel is loose, all it requires is tightening screws. Problem is, the screws aren't exposed on the 9700! I have to pop off the bottom and remove the bezel to get to the screws. Arggggghhhhh

Yes...I notice it too. Though I will add the 9700 sounds much clearer and better quality. It is quiter. And the adjustment is off, like you mentioned, 5 and lower is useless!

I really think its software related. Also speakerphone playing music and sounds is much louder than while on speakerphone phone call.

i got it on the first day it out here on high streets. i bought from voda and that's my first time to use voda network. about the phone, i m pretty much happy though the contract price is expensive. it's smaller then normal bold and the new trackpad is amazing. although the keypad is small, within few days practice, i can now type quite fast so when i m chatting with other friends, they don't notice that i m on mobile. And the phone response very fast on every clicks. especially, to start up the phone is so quick. I found no problem untill i upgrade the new version of facebook app. I can't make or recieve calls when the facebook app is running. I made full wipe the phone and i installed everything again but not the facebook app. I found it no problem and it's a really great phone.

Okay. The first issue is a bug, not the default behavior. As a matter of fact, my 9700 running .296 does not have this issue. All of my text messages show names, so it isn't something that everyone is experiencing.

The second issue I haven't noticed, so chalk this one up to personal preference and subjectivity.

The third issue has nothing to do with the phone, per se. The Facebook app is pretty chunky and slow by nature. It's a horrible app, but it gets the job done.
