T-Mobile 7290 availability
Please Login to Remove!
I'm a newbie to Blackberry usasage and I've decided that the 7290 should fit my personal needs (especially Bluetooth especially since New York has a "hands'free" law).
On some sites I see the 7290 is available Thru T-Mobile and other are even selling it on ebay, but my local T-Mobile stores and their National Customer Support insist it hasn't been released yet!
Does anyone know of a T-Mobile store that has the 7290 available in the New York City (Staten Island preferrably) area?
Thanks!
Marc

eAccess Solutions is a sponsor of this site, and sells the 7290 for T-Mobile.
I bought a Blackberry from EAccess Solutions, and can highly recommend them.

It will never be available. The T-Mobile 7290 is a HOAX. It is really a 7230 with 60 more thrown in. In fact the "7290" I hear goes to 11.

Awe come on
Awe come on, cant we have a little fun. I have been waiting for the 7290 for a few months now with the expected street date of the end of March. Here it is almost mid April and we still have nothing. All I am trying to say is just get the 7290 to stores and in our hands. At this point I don't think Indiana Jones could locate a 7290 in a T-Mobile store...Whatever, just my $0.02

I already have had some in hand. They became available mid-March (but not to the general public yet). Since we're on a corp. account, we were able to get them sooner. We have several attorneys with that device already. It's very nice.

I appriciatee your comments kmcvey, however I am not a corporate user and I dont feel as if I should be penalized. I know penalized is a strong word, but I would like the 7290's on T-Mobile available to the average jo schmoes like me. Thats all.

I am waiting for my 7100t from tmobile to show up.
I wanted to get a 7290, but the rep said they werent available yet.
He convinced me to try the 7100t, and, in case i don't like it, i can return it in 14 days and hopefully they will have the 7290 ready to ship by then.
I actually hope i like the 7100t, since i really like the form factor.
the only thing that makes me think is the keyboard.

I ran into the same thing when the 7730's first came out. I wanted one so bad I could taste it. (Well, almost, taste it.)
The 7730's were available in the corporate channels. I called the corporate sales department, and they had the local corporate-sales rep in my area call me. He called me and said he could sell me one with new service. However, I wanted it for an existing account, and he couldn't help me.

Well I went to the T-Mobile store and was basically told to click my heels three times and say "I really want a 7290". Really the guy I talked to said he has no real street date right now and that it was available through buisness channels. So basically im SOL for at least a few more weeks.

Well, it seems I can get a Cingular 7290 at a really decent price (without activation) but according to T-Mobile it has to be "unlocked" and one of their SIMS card has to be installed.
Is anyone familiar with the process of "unlocking" it and can be be easily acomplished?

Usually the phone must be activated for a set period of time before a carrier will "unlock" your phone. The process usually entails you calling the provider and asking them to unlock the handset for you, they will probably give you a code to enter or they can do it over the air. I have never tried to unlock a BlackBerry, but I'd bet the process is similar.

There must be 50 threads about unlocking (or the problems with unlocking) BlackBerrys.

Is there any new information concerning the release date (not for business accounts) of the BB 7290 for T Mobile?

I called TMob customer care yesterday and they don't even have an estimated release date. The rep said they usually have a date when they are within several weeks of the actual release, so it's at least several weeks away.

can you upgrade to the 7290 (when its available from t-mobile)? I have a 7230 and want to upgrade to the 7290 for obvious reasons.

I tried blackberry customer service, since they have tmobile listed on their website as a provider for the 7290, but they say they they keep no information on what their partners are doing. T-mobile customer service still knows nothing - the guy I spoke to said it was not even listed as upcoming. Any assurance it will come out?
