I was over at my brother's house to help them fix a problem...they were installing some software and had to upgrade IE as a result. They told me they had tried 10 times in a row and IE still wasn't upgraded!

Went over and found that they had downloaded the IE upgrade file over and over (and over) again, but never actually run it.
hahaha .. I'm feeling a bit better now.. thanx..

I really did think the vendor.xml file was supposed to be deleted and then the new files installed; had steps 2 and 3 reversed in my poor old overworked mind. lol

One improvement I've noticed so far (I think)...is that .77 appears to have fixed, or at least improved HTML mail downloading of images. It's seemed so far that when I select the "Get Images" option in an email, that all of the images actually download.

Could be a server fix, rather than the BB OS update, but I first noticed things looked better after the update OS .77.

Any suggestions on how to change my homepage from mobile.blackberry.com to something else on the new OS? I goto options>browser configuration and it won't let me delete the homepage URL and change it.

Wirelessly posted

Go to the page you want, go to options, and select the use current button below the home page screen currently listed.

It's definite. Get images works great.

Much faster than before, too,

One gold star for RIM.

I do that and it works temporarily but always reverts back to the BB homepage.

That's odd...I set my home page a while back and have never had any problems.

I assume you've done a battery pull at some point after setting the home page to your desired page?

Also, have you tried setting your home page to another page to rule out some weird issue w/the particular page you're trying to use?

The internal GPS is always blocked by Verizon unless you pay them $10 a month to unlock it/use VZ Nav.

Rergaring BB Maps, if you want it back (not sure why, Google Maps or Windows Live Search is more useful, IMHO) you can connect your BB, launch DM, run app loader and confirm that BB Maps is selected in the list of applications to load....if it isn't, select it and load it.

Also, confirm that the BB Maps icon isn't just hidden on your Pearl - use the "Show All" settings on the icon screen to show all icons...

make sure you delete the vendor.xml AFTER you run the file you downloaded

I think you have the issue...if he did his steps in order he wrote them, then he deleted the existing Vendor.xml, and then created a new one when he installed the new OS.

Just so we're on the same page: I go to the webpage that I want to set as my homepage, goto options, goto browser configuration, scroll down to use current, hit use current and save the setting.... correct? If so, that's not doing it for me. I've done the battery pull and tried a different webpage. Nothing.

It worked fine with the old OS. I'm wondering if I need to change a setting somewhere, possibly in browser configurations? Here is what is checked and unchecked:

Checked = Prompt to enable javescript and use foreground and background colors.

Unchecked = Support HTML tables, use background images, support embedded media and support style sheets.

For what it's worth, the homepage I'm trying to establish is Google.com.

I upgraded my US Cellular 8130 and so far so good. I went from 4.3 to 4.5, so I guess that was a pretty big jump. Differences I've noticed so far:
New skin on media player. Unfortunately, seek jump is still huge (like 60 second steps in a 25 minute video).
Web browser has direct search capability from "Go To..." page, which will save me many extra steps.
No pictures preloaded on the device at all (for desktop backgrounds).
Haven't got to play around with the GPS yet, which is the main reason I upgraded. Blackberry Maps couldn't properly initialize GPS for some reason, so hopefully that is fixed.

I really like the new direct access to search and history/bookmarks as well - just a great change.

Also...if you hit "QW" while in the browser it goes to full screen (title bar hides) which I prefer...the title bar was just wasted space for me. I don't think this is a new 4.5 feature, but wanted to mention it.

My GPS still sucks. Compared to my Garmin Venture its a complete joke. Basically I can't get GPS to hardly ever work. Typically it will be "searching for satellites" for 3-4 minutes before it finally times out. Sometimes I can go into the GPS settings in Blackberry Maps and change something and save the changes, and it will synchronize with the satellites and find its position pretty fast. However most of the time it never works. I've read of others having the exact same problem. I was hoping this firmware update would fix the problem.

Google.com is my home page...no idea what the issue is, your settings are fine, none of them should interfere w/setting the home page!

Just tried it and was able to change and then reset my home page.

After you select "use current" are you saving your changes? Press the BB key and select "Save Settings", or hit the back key and select Save?
