8830 4.5 taking sooo long to come out
Please Login to Remove!
With the official 4.5 for the 8830 taking so long to come out, what are the chances it will end up with 4.6 or 5.0 instead of the 4.5 update?
Is the delay because of all the software problems with the Storm?

They make money on the plans anyway. I believe their resources have been with the Storm in the case of VZW at least

I agree. I don't think they will update 8830 OS officially ever. :(

Has thier been any official word that 4.2.2 is latest official release for the 8830? I mean it's a great device, and I think it would be unfair to stop updates on the 8830 since the storm has been released. Granted they are both "World" phones but they are completely different.
Maybe they will push the CDMA Bold sooner as a replacement...
At we have beta's.

I would like to think they would have an official release of 4.5 at some point. There have been plenty of beta 4.5 releases. If they weren't going to release it for the 8830, would they waste their time with the betas?

If no vendor accepts it, yes it is wasted. RIM can release all they want but only venders can approve for their users.

I'm just waiting for Sprint to release their version of the Bold. I've pretty much resigned myself to the fact the 8830 is not going to see an OS update.

I suppose if Sprint would come out with their version of the 89xx very soon then I wouldn't mind the delays with 4.5 for the 8830.
Also, there was a new update in the "Beta you than me" forum showing yet another beta version for the 8x30 series (CDMA) (4.5.0.133). Wish we knew if that included the 8830.

I think there will be one eventually. Why waste all the time and effort on all the betas? Also, they did list on their site that 8830 was going to get 4.5. I think they've got some sort of technical issue why. I was at a seminar a month or so ago and it was Blackberry central in there. 75% of people had the 8830. My guess is they don't want to release 4.5 until it's bang on glitch free given that there is a real business angle to it.
If not, oh well. .101 has been rock solid for me and for what I use it for.

Welcome to the forums.
What do you mean for the speed? Is this a company issued device, or a personal device on your BES? Once you upgrade, you will lose connection to the BES and will need to be activated again. You will not need to go to the Verizon website.

also if you're on a bes, i'd double check with your bes admin to make sure its not against company policy to be upgrading on your own and with beta code.

i have read that the new os runs faster in general...unless it is only for the v4.5 that is not available on Verizon....i am also trying to find a better browser, and dont care much for Opera mini. I have also read that the latest os update helps the bb browser along very well....
it is not a corporate issued phone, however i am set up on our BES using Notes as well as internet mail.
thanks for the link, i will check it out.
And you are saying that after i upgrade my OS i will have to contact my admin and have my BES account re-pushed out, right ?

So I upgraded my 8830 from 4.2 OS to 4.5.0.101 about 1 month ago. I love the new features (HTML emails, more RAM (able to use 8Gb sd card) new apps Documents ToGo, Voice recorder. I was on my corp BES before/during the OS upgrade. After the upgrade I had to reactive my BB via BES (new password) so my BB would sync to Exchange, Contact list, and Calendar. It was easy and straight forward. After I reactivated on BES I then logged into Verizon's Internet Service and resent my Service Books to my BB and that reactivated the 6 POP email accounts I use on my BB. The web browser is better with 4.5.0.101, but I also use mini.opera and google.mobile.apps at times for browsing.
I had my 8830 for little over a year linked with my Corp BES. But just recently to save on my budget I dropped my BES data plan with Verizon and now have BIS. I discovered I could add my corp email account to Verizon Internet Service using my OWA settings. so I get my corp email in real time without the extra cost. to sync my contacts and calendar entries I use google sync both linked to my BB and Outlook.
Please note there a several forum notes that talk about upgrading the OS on the 8830. The only watch-out I have to do every couple days is pull my battery, the 4.5.0.101 OS has known “leaks”. My guess this is why Verizon has held off on its release. Again I can live with a battery pull the “new features” out way the short downtime from a battery pull.

That is good to know. I don't have to pay any extra for the BES so that is not a big deal, however it is good to know. It is also good to know that i will have to pull the batt every so often. The benefits definitely seem to outway the battery pull....i have already contacted my Notes Admin to give him a heads up that I plan to update my OS...
again to show my ignorance, where can i find the 4.5.0.101....

It is a beta, you will not find any links to betas on here, it's against forum policy. Google is your friend
