Default Is this true?

Please Login to Remove!

From the Sprint Tour Manual:
Page #62 (#68 of the PDF)
The page is describing the Wireless Coverage Indicators.
The one at the top of the list says 3GBB with the following text:
"You can use the phone, send and receive email messages, PIN messages,
and SMS text messages. You can use the phone and send and receive
email messages or use the browser simultaneously."

I sure hope this is true :^)

Being a true 3G device... it should certainly allow simultaneously phone and data.

Sprint is CDMA.

CDMA does not allow simultaneous call and data connections.

This is often debated, so if you don't believe me, please check for yourself.

The only way this can be accomplished is with two radios which I have never seen listed in the Tour specs.

Well, we're gonna have to wait and see what the first users experience.

That was my understanding as well which is was why I thought it strange to see the text in the user guide.

My guess is it won't support the simultaneous phone and data.

brittonix - you are very, very, very likely correct.

Off topic - does the manual say anything about Japanese text entry?

There is no mention of Japanese in the Sprint manual.

LOL ... Here is the answer, the Tour is a World Phone .. When international and using GSM 3G ... You get simul voice & data ... While in the states & on CDMA you do not, it is a limitation of the current CDMA standard.

Wirelessly posted (Its All About the U!)

That answers it. Another CDMA limitation.

I think CDMA voice quality is better if that helps. Although there are some that think the same of GSM.

Sorry, I am not too well versed the the tech speak for cellular networks, so does that mean that I won't be able to send/receive SMS's while on a call when using Sprint's network? I had this problem with the Curve where it would send/receive only sometimes while on a call.

I hope this hasn't been answered, but I did search this 9630 forum to see if it had been addressed.

I tried doing a Google search while being dialed into my voice mail. No good. I got the warning that the search could not take place while connected to a call.
My admittedly limited understanding is that this is a carrier restriction, not a limitation of CDMA technology itself, nor is it a BlackBerry hardware problem. Sprint themselves seem unable or unwilling to handle the simultaneous voice/data issue.

On my sprint pearl, which is listed as 3g, i can do phone calls and SMS at the same time.

FYI SMS is technicly not considered data, so it still works while on a call.
now trying to send an email/surf the web and it wont work.

SMS uses the regular voice network and not a data network, that is why you will still recieve/send texts if your signal indicator only shows 1x or 1xev, but data such as email/PIN messages will not.

I assume the tour is the same when connected to a CDMA network such as sprint.

Don't everyone jump me at once. But why can my wife send and receive texts while on a phone call with the Samsung Instinct. But you all say it can not be done on the Tour? CDMA must NOT be the issue then.

SMS messages are not part of data. They go through the same part of the spectrum as voice. I can text and talk on my Tour. But I can't use email or the web.

Ahh, I figured i'd see you clarify it for me ;)
Thanks
I'm obviously "a nooB" I have only had my BB for a few weeks (excluding my crappy 7100i i had a yr or so ago).

I've been asking my wife what mms is compared to sms.

Someone is gonna kill me for going off topic in here.

Thanks rambo. I'm getting my wife a tour at the end of this week and myself a tour in a few weeks.
