Default Starting to think we're never getting official 4.5 for 8830

Please Login to Remove!

Sure seems like the 8830 is becoming the poor stepchild while all the focus is on the 4.6 line.

Yes, there is a locatable 4.5.0.77 out there but it has issues still.
I'm looking for an official release or an updated beta.

Same here. 4.5.0.77 has been installed for quite some time now on my 8830. Works awesome.

With 4.5.0.77, I have to reboot at least once per day, often twice. Also, after a phone call it takes a very long time for data / email to start flowing back in. Sometimes a reboot is necessary.
I do have several apps loaded.
-Flipside
-Gmail client
-Google Maps
-A couple of smaller games
My current file free at the moment is 385,444 bytes and it is working okay.

I suspect there is still a memory leak.

Also, the 8830 reboots on it's own. I can tell because the GMail client displays "loading" progress bar when it is opened after a reboot.

Those who say .77 is working well, do you only have the base apps loaded?
Are you doing BES and BIS at the same time?
How much do you use the browser?

WHOA! Get the to a Memory Optimization thread quickly... Less than .5MB?

I suspect you have a memory flood!

functionally .77 is fine for me, I'm just hoping for more memory legroom. 7MB after a battery pull is way too little space free. I may just have to wait for the Storm to come out to get lots o free space on my blackberry :P

Mine's been rock solid to the point that I could care less if/when an "official" release comes out. I've got the base apps and a few others (Pocket Informant is the big one). I'm not one for loading lots of "fluff" on my BB.

Do you use a "today" theme and have your icons rearranged? If so, then every time you reboot, your icons will revert to their default locations. And with the memory leaks in this version, rebooting is more frequent than in the 4.2 version. But there are so many other great things about this version that I don't want to downgrade.

I use the default today theme that came on the phone and it doesnt rearrange the icons after a reboot. I dont reboot anymore now than i did with the 4.2 OS, which is very rare i have to because i dont even remember the last time i had to reboot it.

Maybe it's the Today "Plus" theme. I use the one where you can move to the right and your top 5 icons are there. Those revert to default on reboot.

I have one custom theme, WorldMate, PocketDay and two other small apps installed and have never seen 7 Megs free! Best I get after a battery pull is 6.5 and it goes down from there quickly, often reach 100k and have to do the battery pull love the features of 4.5.0.77 but definitely has memory leaks!

I've had battery problems after I installed 4.5.0.77 on my Bell Mobility 8830. I couldn't charge the battery either through the BB Charger or through USB or Car Adapter. Had to back out the OS and go back to 4.2 - too bad - 4.5.0.77 looks like it has some nice features and a better user interface.

As far as the memory, someone had mentioned in a previous thread that the meter may not be correct and that he was able to work the device at 0MB.

That has actually been my experience - I ran that way for at least a day before I decided to reboot "just in case".

What celly said...

Only thing was/is that 77 doesn't have any ring tones or notification tones so there was/is the necessity to snag a java file from an earlier version and drop it into the appropriate place in 77, then everything is fine.

I have found NO issues in about a month of use; my ring tone volume can be so loud it startles me, an 8gb micro card is supported (940 music files from my itunes library so far with half a card left over), and everything else is hunky dory.

In addition, the user can free up memory. This link below is really helpful.
