Well... I just ordered the 8830 from our bus. rep. Should be here in the morning. Retail price was $519, seemed like a strange price to me, but oh well.

I called normal Verizon customer service line and they said it wasn't going to be released till May 25th. Can normal consumer still get the phone by just calling the business rep of Verizon? Please confirm.
thanks

If you work for a corporate customer (high volume consumer) you can order it through your rep. Not sure if you can order it for yourself through the rep, but it's worth a shot.

Our rep is flooded with requests for the phone. No biggie though. I give it a week or so before it calms down.

She told me that they can not order it through their system and that all the orders were having to be manually requested.

Just ordered mine through plain old customer service, not sure why since I'll be jumping ship for the curve but what the hell..

Edit: Just got a call back from VZW telling me she was sorry but the oficial launch date was the 28th so she couldn't complete my order, WTF...

Same here, from our business rep. We aren't a large scale customer though. No biggie, I'm with Sprint. I've got a nice LONG wait ahead of me. Plenty of time to save up and validate the $500 cost though.

Tax Amount 34.77
Deposit Amount .00
Shipping Charges 14.99
TOTAL $ 569.75

apparently there are some internal issues with setting up customers with the 8830. they are placing a temporary freeze on purchasing until after the issues are resolved.

Default Just ordered the 8830 from VZW

I saw the 8830 live last week (our corp rep had it in the office). I took it for a test drive and it was awesome. The silver color was not as sharp as the black from Cingular, Rogers, T-mobile but its VZ up to its old tricks again (remember the silver and then black Qs).

I ordered it through the rep this morning.

Details:
2 yr contract price with corp discount - $159.99 (required unlimited $44.99 data plan, but I can downgrade any time). I also got the global kit with the SIM (another $20 per month that can be cancelled any time w/o penalty).

So whoever is paying $500+ is not getting a deal.

-- One more thing - the rep told me the global kit was free if I ordeded it with the phone and $30-$40 if bought separately depending on corp discount. So I got it at the time of the order.

Eg

Just got off the phone with my local rep. He didn't have any information at all about the phone until I told him I was thinking about leaving VZW for the curve. He then told me they should have them in the stores this Friday with the next shipment and I could come by and take a look at them.

I didn't want/could not renew contract, but she told me if I were to activate new line or sign another 2 yr that would have been the price. I was just posting what retail was for anyone who might be interested.

lmao, i just called and i have to wait until the 28th, but a rep told me that i can always add another line and then discard it later...how feasible would that be? $500+ is a rip off to me...i had vzn since feburary, before i had cingular and my phones from cingular NEVER cost me $500 (i currently have the xv6700, before on cingular i had the 8700c bb)...it was always in the 3's at least...what's the deal here, why such a huge price?

Just ordered mine for $159. They are actually considering giving it to me for free and taking back my 8703e which I got on April 14th...either way I should have it on Wednesday. Woot!

$519 is the in contract/no contract price (full price) that you can pay if you are not eligible for discounted pricing or don't want to extend your contract.

That's pretty standard for smartphones (Treo, etc. can be more than $600). It's like buying an unlocked phone before it's available on ebay. You don't get the carrier's subsidy.
