Default Using a Prosumer BB with an Enterprise SIM?

Please Login to Remove!

Hello

I have a company Vodafone BB 8700 and was just about to buy a Vodafone BB 8300 badged "Prosumer"

If I take out the 8700 SIM and put it in the 8300 SIM,and get IT to do the usual install, will it work OK? Or is there a hardware difference between "Enterprise" and "Prosumer" BBs?

thanks!

The SIM does not control your Blackberry service; that's done between the device and the BB servers.

'Enterprise' and 'prosumer' are marketing gimmicks.

Check with IT first to see if they will support the 8300. Other than that, you're good to go.

I'm not entirely sure that's the case as I do recall reading about someone trying to use a Prosumer BB with BES and not being able to do so. The European carriers do handle things differently. It's possible that the case I'm thinking of didn't work out because a business account was required by the carrier for BES access.

Anyway, the best way to find out is to give it a shot and see if it works unless another Euro BB guru can speak up on this.

Really? Strange because there's a $250 difference in purchase price - the Vodafone UK website's Business section gives you the Enterprise otherwise you get the Prosumer.

I will ask IT if they support it and have a go. Many thanks

it is the SIM, all you need to do is put in the enterprise SIM and it will work with BES, don't worry.

Vodafone, T-mobile and O2 in the UK do block BES access on a 'Prosumer' plan. There's no difference in the phone - it's just a setting change to your account that the service provider needs to make to allow you to use BES. If you buy a Prosumer phone then it can be a pain getting it activated for BES - in my experience T-mobile are a lot more switched on than Vodafone or O2 - but perhaps I'm getting better at asking for the right thing!
