Question How to get Tour for EXISTING VZW customer?

Please Login to Remove!

Good day all:

I am a current VZW customer (BB Curve). I'd like to move to the Tour, but am not willing to pay $489 or whatever the retail price is. I am not eligible for the "new every 2" yet.

Is there anyway to get a Tour without having to buy it retail? If not, I'll stick by my trusted Curve for a while longer.

Thanks!

Add a second line to your account. Buy the Tour at the subsidized price for that line.
When you receive the device, do an ESN swap with your first line.

the 2 year price on the tour is 269.99 with a 70 mail in rebate. see if you can do a early upgrade, they are pretty lenient if you have been there a year or more and make your payments on time. call customer care, they bend the most.

Thanks all. I will give customer care a shot. I actually did open a new line to get the Tour for the 199 price. I received the phone, did an ESN swap and then they added the new line to my family plan for the additional 10/month. So in other words, they expected me to keep the new line open or close the new line and return the Tour or bill me for the retail price. No thanks. I closed the new line and am sending the Tour back.

Maybe cust care will be more willing to help here as suggested.

Uh, right. What did you think was going to happen?
The whole point of getting the subsidized price is that you're agreeing to a contract period for a new line of service. They offset the discounted price by getting you to pay monthly for service.

They're not just going to discount the price of the equipment for you and get nothing in return.

You may wish to try the customer retention department if you are near the end of your contract. They may be lenient and extend your contract for an additional 2 years, without getting a new line, but YMMV. It has worked in the past for some folks.

Why would you expect them to let you not keep the 2nd line open?

Of course..the idea is not to pay full retail..so you pay 10 bucks a month instead and when your other line is up you cancel it..so what is that? Maybe 120 bucks you pay instead of 500? Up to you.

Interesting:
I purchased my tour Sunday and they charged me the $269 with the $70 rebate.
My dad like the phone and went in. He has two lines, I think sharing minutes. With out any asking they said he was eligible for upgrade. i expected to hear the price and rebate i received. Nope. He was charged the $269 but his rebate will net him the tour for $100.

What gives?

when the storm had just come out i was only about 3 months into a 2 year contract (without annual upgrade). I called customer service and they refused to allow an early upgrade at the discounted rate so I just asked what my prorated early term fee was and said I would do that explaining that I could just switch to sprint and would make that money back in just a couple months. They then immediately offered to give me the storm at 2 year contract price and reset my contract...

could always give that a try...
