Default Sprint Tour w/ ATT SIM ??

Please Login to Remove!

I tried putting a ATT SIM into a Sprint Tour. Should this in theory work?

When I go into "SIM CARD" from options / advanced options it says something like no valid sim found.

You would need to unlock the device for it to work.

The Tour will only work on a GSM network overseas with a GSM sim card. It will not work in the US on a GSM network. At all.

See I know I heard Storms were being done this way for months.

This is the deal, I do actually have some of my user base in my enterprise go over seas, and I do need the phone to work overseas. It would aslo be nice if i could throw an ATT SIM in a phone in a pinch here.

I have an O2 SIM card that works fine in another phone. I have a ATT SIM that works fine in another phone. Both of them immediately come up "Invalid SIM Card" . This would lead me to believe that they will not work in europe by popping in an O2 sim (which they have done in the past) and doing it prepaid.

I had always heard Verizon locked down their phones, but sprint didn't. The sprint sim seems to work fine in the phone, it would just be easier on me for them to be able to swap sims.

I just chatted w/ Sprint's international support. They say the same thing, it's unlocked and should work. I explained that a sim that works in an 8800 doesnt work in the 9630. They dont seem to have an answer.

Is there some newer type of SIM card that I don't have that this device uses?

While the CDMA portion of the Tour is not locked, the GSM part may be configured to only work overseas. The idea was to use Sprint's or Verizon's international roaming service with the provided SIM card, but a pre-paid *should* work. You might need to be overseas physically though, in order to access their networks.

Recall the 8830 "World Phone" prohibited the use of North American SIM Cards. The Storm allowed this, but only after getting the GSM portion unlocked. Most users reported that a simple call to Verizon got the unlock code for free, and Verizon provided it on the spot.

I'd keep calling Sprint, checking with a different rep each time. Many (most?) are clueless about BlackBerrys. Keep asking for the unlock code for the GSM portion of the device so you can use a pre-paid SIM card overseas.

alright i have been working with sprint and the higher ups to get something done about the "unlocked" tours. They say they were not aware that their phones were being shipped locked and the higher-ups should be getting the codes today. i will keep you guys posted one the situation.

Incorrect - the Tour will work here on GSM when unlocked.

alright sprint is now giving out the unlock codes... for the last hour i have tried multiple services.. they are all reading however AT&T doesn't let me place calls but the data works just fine, DoCoMo and softbank sim cards load up just fine but i wont be able to test them until i return to japan. T-mobile lets you make and receive calls just fine. im wondering wassup with the AT&T one but imma play around abit and see wassup.

I have been able to go into Manage connections/Mobile Network Options and under Network Technology and set it to GSM/UMTS. Then set Network mode to 2G and pick up AT&T & T-Mobile. Changing "Network Selection Mode" to Manual allows you to choose between the GSM networks available. In my area I see AT&T & T-Mobile. HOWEVER, it appears that AT&T & T-mobile only allow emergency calls with the included sim. I would be very interested to see if this works for calls with a AT&T or T-Mobile sim.
