My wife got a 9650 from her company and it displays '3G' instead of '1XEV' !!!
OS version shows the same as our 9630s - is there some setting? Or is it just 1 more thing that is different?

Just 1 more thing that's different - I noticed that when I upgraded too. Never understood why VZW had 1XEV when everyone calls it 3G.

My phone shows 3G. The 1XEV is the Verizon non-Global network as a CDMA phone.

What difference does it make what they call it? It's the same functionality.

The 3G is a product of the theme. There are themes that will show the 3G on a 9630 in place of the IXEV. I am using a theme that shows 3G

Admittedly, it is. What I perhaps should have said was for marketing purposes it might have made sense for them to show "3G" rather than 1XEV. Kinda like everyone calls facial tissue Kleenex, regardless of the actual brand they use.

Only in the US. Over in the UK its just tissue.

It's just a cosmetic feature VZW is trying to use show they have 3G, if they implemented that on the 8xxx series devices, 2 years ago it probably would have had more of a "Wow I got 3G" factor to it, to today, no one cares
