Default Who's running 4.5 on their 8800 and what version?

Please Login to Remove!

I installed a beta version of 4.5 on my 8800 earlier this week. It's version 4.5.09 . I really like it a lot. All of the fonts and views in mail and calendar are much better than the prior version. It also has spell check which is great. There is Documents to Go on the device, but when I open an attachment it uses the OS viewer instead. The media menus are different as well, but I really don't use my phone for that to make any comparisons. So far I've had no issues at all running it.

I'm curious if anyone has a newer version of it, and what their impressions are of the new OS on the 8800.

I can't wait till the 9000 get here so we all can use the new OS.

I am betting it will not run well on the average BB due to lack of memory in comparison to the 9000. I can wait as I will not tollerate my device being buggy or crashing!

I'm running 4.5.0.9 and am quite happy with it.

Haven't run into any issues yet. I really like the new browser as well as the new style of email viewing.

I don't use the mp3 or other media functions, so I can't comment on their functionality.

Well,

I had installed this 4.5 OS on my 8800 previously, which indeed the user interface is good.
But as it is a beta version, I found some improper function on my 8800 which one of them is that bluetooth cannot run.
So I decided to switch the OS the 4.2.1.115 and wait for the official version of 4.5 to be released.

regards,
Andika

Sith, I'd be curious to hear whatever you can share about what is on version 4.7 as compared to 4.5.

Using OS 4.5.09 on my T-Mobile 8800, and I've noticed a few small bugs.

When getting a call while using a bluetooth headset, there is NO caller ID screen, and NO audio ringer or vibrate. The only way to tell you're getting a call is the ringing thats in the bluetooth headset. The only way to answer the call is with the button on the bluetooth headset.

Also, I've noticed some problems with signal, sometimes I glanced over to see "searching for network" when my phones on the front seat of my car.

Blackberry Maps works, but integrated GPS is touch and go. BB Maps says it has 9 satelites aquired, but will randomly say "searching for satelites" Google maps is not immune to this problem, but just wont tell you when its looking for satelites, it just wont update your location for 20 seconds at a time sometimes.

As far as the media player is concerned, stereo bluetooth works like a champ, but dont plan on answering your phone when listening to music, unless you dont mind knowing whos calling. Occasionally when listening to music the audio will be very flat, with no bass, easily corrected by stopping the music and resuming... The mute button on the top of the phone works when it feels like it.

The UI isnt any faster or slower than 4.2.1.115, and there are no memory leaks that I'm aware of. Been using it for a few days no resets or battery pulls. Between 25 and 28 megabytes of memory, seems to go up and down, but never below 25. Removed preload pictures and sample music/video. With a handful of third party apps. Speaking of third party apps, Jivetalk, Google Maps, Google Mail, and others work without an issue.

The new browser is the only thing thats keeping me from going back to the previous release. But this is most certainly not ready for mainstream use.

This has got to be a royal pain in the butt, but has to be done!

I have never seen so much interest in threads that mention 4.5. Over 12,000 reads on some of these threads! That almost beats all the sticky threads and will surpass them soon!

How much would you be willing to bet that the 9000 will be introduced BEFORE 4.5 or 4.8 or 4.9 will be introduced for ALL the current RIM devices. Not just the Curve but the 88xx series, etc.

Do you have PayPal account? $50 $100 $200 $???

Pick your poison!

If it did happen, it would be worth it to me anyway! But I doubt I have much to worry about!

4.5.0.9 was released a couple weeks ago (not earlier last week) and was very buggy with regards to the radio and sustaining connectivity and displaying very sensitive behavior. Signal levels are also quite a bit weaker with all areas (thus the sensitivity in elevators, at your home in 1- or 2-bar areas, etc) when compared to OS 4.2.x. The latest known OS version is 4.5.0.20 (released Friday afternoon), although this version may have been only for the 8320.

One reason we have certain rules here regarding some OS 4.5 threads (not this one) is for people like this guy who is asking a "developer" compatibility questions for an OS that's not out yet. That really bugs the sh*t out of me...

That wasn't what you said. You said, referring to OS 4.5 it seemed, that it wouldn't run that well on the average BB. I think it's going to run quite well. From what I've seen it's far better than OS 4.2.1 ever was.
