I'm on the fringe here at home. So my connection goes in and out. I want to disable the transmitter so that the phone will stop trying to find a network everytime it loses it. So I've gone into 'Manage Connections' > unchecked: 'Mobile Network'

Back on the Home deck I see that the radio is OFF but that it's Searching...

This is the procedure for manually disabling the transmitter, correct?

It's not really still searching (i.e. killing the battery)

Why not just turn it off and then back on when you need it? Seems to me to be easier than what you are trying to do.

I'm using latest OS on a Curve, but I think this should be pretty much the same on all recent versions. You should have an icon for "Manage Connections" - click it, and you'll have the option to turn your various connections on and off manually. On the 8300, this includes Mobile Network and Bluetooth Network, and you can also Turn "All Connections" off with a single click.

Another good trick for saving battery: if you don't put the BB in a case with a magnetic "sleeper", then you should put the device in "standby". On the newer devices, there's a button at the top of the device that does this if you hold it in for a few moments. Saves battery as if you had put the device in an OEM case with the sleeper magnet.
