I just updated App World and Facebook and there is now a number, 172, with a very small icon next to it, what looks like a phone message (reel to reel) with 3 dots over it, between the battery/speaker icons and the date/time info.

Anyone know what this references? I opened both apps but saw no reference to the number in either. I would have used one of the software forums but one app is a RIM app and the other a 3rd party.

A reel-to-reel icon is a voicemail icon.

And the icon and number just disappear after a couple of days. I guess it just needed a few days to think about what it did.
