It is not easy.

The LiOn battery needs to be monitored while charged (you will note that there will be several connections to it) and any incorrect charge will be dangerous to both the battery and anyone near it.

When I read the title and first post I thought you meant an external device to plug the bb in to charge it. So, going off that...
If you are a do it yourself kind of person who knows how to solder and follow simple directions, I recommend the mintyboost and since I can't post links do an internet search for mintyboost. a woman who goes by ladyada put it together as a project and to get past some poor designs of the 9vdc step down chargers.

I built two, one for my 8330 and one for my fiance and her iphone. The curve has a small battery so the 2aa's that the kit comes with works great. However, the 3g iphone has a high capacity battery so I built hers using 4aa's (basically doubled up on so the circuit still only gets 3vdc, but at twice the milliamps of 2 batteries). It took as long for my soldering iron to heat up than put the kit together.

I looked into the external power source for pandora radio (so glad it is on the blackberry now) and gpsed for when I go on excursions to trace my tracks on google earth or see how far I go.

There are plenty of devices out there that put out 5-6vdc and the needed milliamps to power a phone, but a vast majority on ebay do not have a voltage regulator so if you use very powerful batteries, you can fry your devices.

Just some food for thought.

The C series is pretty solid and its charges a bit faster compared to other chargers out in the market.

i'm happy with my blackberry mini external charger. i have a total of 3 batteries so i always have one charging. so it works for me. when you have 3 time isn't an issue. only a good charge is. and since i drain every battery before i charge them, that's what i get. i don't see how anyone could go without that set up. i guess it's just me.
