I've been looking into the battery life of the Bold and up until now I've put its lesser battery life (in comparison to the current Curve 83xx) down to bigger and better hardware.

That seems valid enough to me, also the 3G/2G handover has been known to drain the battery. Seeing as the 8900 will not have the 3G handover to contend with I was assuming the battery life would be phenomenally better, as this is pretty much a deal breaker for me.

I was then told by a T-Mobile sales rep that it isn't necessarily the 3G/2G handover or the 3G module itself that sucks the battery, its more the high resolution screens that these new BlackBerrys have; 480 x 320 and 480 x 360. If this is the case then the 8900 may indeed suffer from similar battery life woes as the Bold.

I think it is due more to the 3G than the screen though I'm sure it plays a part in it

I agree...3G is a known battery hawg. The screen resolution and size will affect battery life but much less than 3G. Consider the source of your info.....

You may be on the right track with your post as the T-Mobile sales rep has their shop selling Bolds and I doubt that they will see the Javelin at the time that Carphone Warehouse get it. They may not get it for a while as that on T-Mobile shop only recently got hold of the Bold, I haven't see any multi-carrier phone shops (like Phones4U or Carphone Warehouse) offering the Bold on T-Mobile.

I'll most likely do a side by side comparison of both phones before I take it any further.

It will be the handover, Screen Size, Screen colors, background usage, and screen time out that will determine the battery life ultimately. Not to mention normal talk time for you and usage

The Bold's battery life has dramatically increased with the latest software updates, etc.

I could easily pull off charging every other night with the Bold, which is what I did with my old Curve 8300. It's a little worse but nothing drastic at all when you factor in the 3G, better screen, etc.

I bought the Seido extended battery 1600mah. I can get 3 full days off a single charge. This is with only have 2 hours of wifi on average, no bluetooth, about 40 emails a day, 40 SMS a day, and about 30 to 60 Min talk a day. I leave the phone in the pouch I have from blackberry, and I also use the auto standby program to keep the phone in standby as long as possible to conserve battery. 4

I am on my second 8900 as the first had bad battery life and Rogers replaced but the new one is the same. I also have down loaded he latest OS from this site but it has done nothing. I have my screen set at about 30% backlighting I have auto dim off, wifi off rarely use phone and will get maybe a day and 1/2 max.

What is "auto standby program" PS I have mine shut down ever night automatically and fire up in the morning so it is not running for about 8 hrs every evening.

Is this the same battery as in the bold? everyone I know who has a bold seems to get longer life from it then I do and the same holds true for the storm. What is the 8900 such a power hog?

Have just switched from a 8310 to an 8900 - battery life is dire in comparison!

I use auto off/on, so my bb turns off from 11pm to 6am. The night before last when it powered up it was down to 70%! It was holstered, so last night I tried it unholstered, I woke up to a completely dead battery. The only difference was that it was plugged into my pc (which was in stand-by). Has anyone else experienced this issue? I'm going to experiment tonite and leave it unholstered and not plugged in to see what happens.

A day of heavy use - wifi, constant emailing, browsing, gps, and I'm at 60% with it being unplugged at 8 am. Holstered when not in use.
