Default Upgrading devices from an ebay purchased device

Please Login to Remove!

If I purchase a device off ebay and swap out my SIM cards will it work or is there something my administrator has to do to redeploy the device on the BES?

Basically what I would like to do is purchase my own 7780 since this is not a device we are deploying (only the 6280 currently) and swap my SIM, do a sync and go.

Is this possible or is there more steps that must be done?

First off make sure the device your looking at on eBay will work with your carrier. Only Cingular BB's come unlocked, ATT under no circumstance will they unlock a device and with TMo you need to be in good standings with them to do so. Beyond that the only thing you might need is to have the service books from the BES server sent to your devive which might also require updating you PIN on the server as well.

It will work, as long as you follow the caveats in finch's post.

I am using a former broken Cingular on the Rogers Canada network. Works perfectly.

BES standpoint, just update the PIN on the BES end, and get the service books sent to the bb again, should be good.

Yes, whether you are using BWC or BES, I believe the IMEI and PIN need to be changed to reflect the new device.
