Default BES new user activation problems

Please Login to Remove!

Before i start, i've read most topics concerning this problem and tried about everythign that was in those topics (except wired activation.. because i refuse to believe that its impossible to to wireless..)

Problem: The blackberry wont activate. the BES server shows no real errors, just waiting and pinging.
We checked with the provider and the account is correct.
I reset the blackberry (removed battery) and reset the server and added the user new 3x...

Below is a piece of the log when i created the user.. maybe you guys see somethign i didnt..

What mail system are you using? Lotus Notes will sometimes require a 'connection document' in order for a BB to activate properly.

Its exchange 2003 on a SBS 2003 server.
and we get the .EDP file (EPD?.. anyway, a connection mail), which says NOT to move or delete it.. which i dont.
But on the blackberry side, nothing happens when i try to activate... just "<email address> activating"

1.try activating with a sim that is already on the BES (rules out provisioning,)
2.how many times have you used this password? (more than 5 times, it wont work)
3.check your spam filters havent changed the ETP message, in anyway..

(personally I think its issue 1 i have seen an etp.dat message sent from a BIS activated device.)

That line indicates that BES thinks the device is set up for Desktop Redirector.
Was redirector ever used?
If you, you'll need to uninstall it and remove the service books manually from the device.

Well, the device (not here atm, so i cant try) was used for POPmail a few weeks while his BES account was being setup by the provider.

I thought about resetting the whole thing to default settings, but since he already worked with it i was hoping to do it without resetting.
Might that be a good option to try before anything elsE?

To get back to this.
Still doesnt work.

We even tried a new out of the box blackberry... still no go.
i reinstalled the BES ... no go.
I receive the ERP.DAT files.. no problemo... but what should happen next is one big mystery.

All ports are open (1433 and 3101) and the SRP status is connected in the BES manager.

I called the provider 3x to check if the account is setup correctly for BES use.. and they garantee me that everything about the account is ok.

I reset the password through the wizard AND manually set it also... about 3x
no go.

I am completely without a clue how to proceed.

Try activating the user with a Static Mailbox Agent. Double click the user's name in BES Manager, then click on Advanced.

Enable static mailbox agent = True
Mailbox Agent ID = some random number above 200

Hmmm...might be the difference between SBS and full blown BES. I'm not sure.

is that user just regular domain user? Does activation email ends up in user mailbox? If so, does it go away right away or stays there?

Its a regular domain user.
He gets the activation email, but it doesnt go away.

To make things more complicated... or maybe easier for you guys...
I connected the blackberry to the pc and installed the desktop manager.
NOW it activated, and it started to synchronise....
SO i was happy for a moment.
Until i saw that the status remained RUNNING ... and the synchronisation is only one way. When you delete or send something from the blackberry, it doesnt update the server.

Is this a small setting somewhere or have i now screwed up the activation?

The fact that activation email does not disappear quickly right after means one of these things:
1. Permissions on exchange servers are incorrect. Review it again as it may be that after some exchange SP or security patch are reset.

http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/micro...00%20107232286

2. Outlook cached mode is enabled in his outlook profile.
http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/micro...00%20107232113

3. Attachment is stripped by AV or firewall.
Also I'd remove Desktop manager from his workstation. Wipe device and use usb cable connected to a BES server and activate it that way. That will bypass email portion of the activation.

k, trying that now, but no luck.
how do i do that exactly?

i wiped the blackberry. attached it to the server... and then what?
it still tries to activate wirelessly and when i remove the user and add it via the wizard and select a wired method, it presumes the blackberry is instyalled as a device on the server.
But BES doesnt recognise it and windows only sees it as a disk drive

nvm, forgot the CD

It seems to work now...
status is still running though... dunno if that is ok. i would have expected "activated".

Last question... eventhough its not admin related i think... it only seems to synchronise a small part of his emails. where do i set the ammount of emails it synchronises?.. or from which date??

Thats only PRE-population right?... cause io changed those settings and it still doesnt synchronise more then before.
is there a way to redo this, without having to wipe the blackberry again?

Wiping and reactivating won't work either.
You'll need to remove the user's BES account and then re-add them.
Once that's done, then you can reactivate and the pre-pop should occur.
