Default HOWTO: cross-reference RefID from message to logs

Please Login to Remove!

*Note: This has only been tested for BES 4.0 for Exchange.

Just a little helpful hint for some more advance troubleshooting. I'm sure most of you BES admins have looked into atleast one of the log files. Anyhow, for email tracking, the Monitor Agent log (MAGT) is the best one to look at.

For every email that is sent to/from the handheld, it has an associated RefID. These RefID's can be tracked in the MAGT log file. To find out what a particular message's RefID is, you can open the message, then push ALT+VIEW (type out V-I-E-W; on a 7100 handset, use multi-tap typing for the word).

This can help you out with most delivery issues or status reconcile issues.

Actually, on GroupWise BES, most of this information would also be contained in the GroupWise Connector log (GWCO), but in a more condensed format.

Well the statement was correct for Exchange, and it reflects near the same info in GroupWise on that same file, however GW has a connector log that shows very similar information, only in a slightly more readable and condensed format.

Good info regardless

ALT-VIEW also works on calendar entries. Open up the appointment and type it (ignore the "?+2" it puts on the screen) and you will see refid, timezone for the entry, GMT start timestamp, parent id, and related time.
