So those of you that have seen this recent problem, what have you done to fix it? I'm still restarting the Dispatcher service on the BES. Has anyone applied the hotfix and reg key?

I've done all of the work-arounds (hotfix/reg hack) and the problem still exists. Now have MOM set up to send notifications with the following keywords: Name: ResolveNamesMAPI ResolveName and then MOM automatically is stopping/restarting the Blackberry Router/Dispatcher/Controller. All was well with v.4.1.4 - it wasn't until the servers were upgraded to v.4.1.5 (for MS Exchange) that this started happening.

Thats when we started to experience this problem also. Thanks for the reply, MOM sounds like a good temporary workaround.

We're currently running 4.1.6.13 for Exchange.

I have a quick question about this I've run into this exact problem and I'm not sure if the MS Hotfix needs to be applied to the BES server and not excahnge?

Same problem here (using Exchange 2007 + BES 4.1.6 MR2). We will try the recreation of the MAPI profile + registry modification on the BES servers as described in RIM KB16118.

We've been told that the Hotfix should be installed on the BES and doesn't need to be on the Exchange Server.

Default which server to do the hotfix and regedit?

Anyone please let me know where the hotfix and registry editing as mentioned in the KB 929439 be done for blackberry mail issue.
I couldn't find the registry field for entering the new key in BES. So I guess it should be done on Exchange server 2003. Which exchange server it should be done? should it be done on active cluster server?
Is reboot required for both exchange and BES after this? Also, tell if which all services will it affect after hotfix is installed?
Is it mandatory to do regedit on Exchange server 2003 or hotfix is enough?
We have Exchange server 2003 SP2 and BES manager 4.1.6.9.

The RIM KB says that you have to install this on the BES server:

Quote:
Apply this hotfix on the client-side MAPI program (BlackBerry Enterprise Server running Microsoft Exchange System Manager).
Due to file dependency, Microsoft Exchange System Manager 2003 Service Pack 2 must be installed before applying the hotfix.
You need to install the hotfix AND add the registry key.

If you don't see the registry structure, you probably haven't installed the Exch System Manager.

Day before the File server/DC/GC/Print had a memory issue and Did a cold boot.
uponresart of the File server, BES was working with no restart of services.

Last night I replace the RAM and BES users are complaing to me today 12 hours later.
Guess it is only happens part of the time as previous times GC was rebooted BES worked fine.

That depends on which GC the BES was pointing to. It may have had a connection with a different GC when you did the cold reboot. In this case, there will be no problem.

You can find out, which GC server the BES is using from the BES service user's MAPI profile or from the MAGT log:

[ENV] Global Catalog Server (GCS) from the BlackBerry MAPI profile:

Failed to read 001e6602 reg value from the BlackBerry MAPI profile.

Guess I found out something to search for.

it goes on the BES server, because that is where you have a MAPI program running as a service:

Then, the Exchange 2003 server passes a failed credentials error back to the MAPI program. This behavior causes the connection to stop using process credentials and to enter a user credentials state. However, the user credentials state will fail when the MAPI program is running as a service. This failure occurs because the MAPI program cannot prompt for credentials.

Found more info on the MAPI profile. I do not have this entry. Wonder if adding it will break anything.

Also found

Blackberry agent MAPI profile has an entry to the Global catalog at
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\BlackBerryManager\dca740c8c0421 01ab4b908002b2fe182]
"001e6602"="GCServer.Domain.com"

found above at
Blackbery Enterprise Server and moving Domain Controller - microsoft.public.exchange.admin | Google Groups

Re created the MAPI profile and it did not add the above registry setting.

There are two Mapi profiles in the registry:

BlackberryManager - Used for the BB Console to get data from Exchange
BlackberryServer - Used for BES to send and receive data from Exchange

You should have this key in the BlackberryServer profile

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\BlackBerryServer\dca740c8c0421 01ab4b908002b2fe182]
"001e6602"="GCServer.Domain.com"

In the Blackberry Manager profile, this key is empty for me.

Is it listed as a DWORD?

Surely not a DWORD. It is a REG_SZ (String) as it stores the full server name and not a number.
