Default Battery Pulling 3-4 Times A Day - Normal??? Advice??

Please Login to Remove!

I've had Blackberries before, and I have had the 9530 Storm since November.
My husband has the Storm since November as well.
We are both havign to battery pull multiple times a day cause our phones freeze up. He is getting really tired of it, and honestly so am I.
I understand once every few days, but this seems wrong.

Is anyone else experiencing this? or should we take back our phones and recieve new ones??

Let me know please!

EBlanco,

I had this problem while running OS .65 and .75. I got it to decrease dramatically after doing three things.

1. Activating the Memory Cleaning function. Do that by clicking:
Options > Security Options > Memory Cleaning
Click the top right tab and change it to "Enabled". Exit and save changes.

2. Clear your Event Log at least once a week. Do that by rotating the phone into Landcape mode (sideways). Click the BB menu button and click "Show Keyboard". When the keyboard appears, lock the numbers key and type: #/#/
The event log will appear. Click the BB menu button and click on "Clear log". You get a pop up window and select "delete". Then exit all the way out.

The event log simply monitors every action the phone makes and can be used to track errors in phone operation. If your phone is nutting up a tech can use the log to see what's going on behind the scenes. But this log also takes up memory space. I give it a week and clear it.

3. A battery pull every so often is good. I usually do it at least once or twice a week, sometimes because I have to for various reasons.

If you have owned previous Blackberries and are familiar with the DM, then I suggest loading OS .103. There are threads that will help you in doing so.

I just did it for a co-worker and she is thrilled with the results. She went from .75 to .103 and no more of the annoying problems.

Running 103 and tried this from the landscaped homescreen and the phone seemed to lock up. No pop-up window appeared. Did I do something wrong?

Any aftermarket apps installed such as Weatherbug? I'm still on .75 and easily go a week or 2 between battery pulls.

Andy,

I am running .103 and actually cleared the log while detailing how to do it step-by-step. You should be able to do it. Stumo makes a good point by questioning the presence of any third party apps. I am no fan of Weatherbug after dealing with all the spyware it loaded into my old PC that could only be remedied with a reformatting of the hard drive.

Try a reboot (battery pull) and then attempt to clear the Event Log again. This is a basic phone function that should work.

Me and my husband are both on .103 OS, we both have the memory cleaning enabled automatically, and we clear event logs.

We've been doing this since the very beginning. That is why we are a bit annoyed that we are doing so many battery pulls a day. He has a Storm Holster and it even locks up in there as well.

Iwould return them under warranty and demand working phones what you paid for,

My 1st storm seemed ok then constant lock ups tried every trick to make it work

finally returned the phone to verizon replaced with another on -- only two days so far so good

I like the storm when it is working but considering the price and lack of tech support from RIM i could see a class action law suit in the future.

I have heard numbers as high as 60% return or exchange rates

and now they have dropped the price to $99.00 it makes me wonder is there a Storm 2 on the horizon ???

I was doing 2 - 3 battery pulls per day on OS's prior to .103. I upgraded to 103 about a week and a half ago and I think I've only done one battery pull since then (and at least one "normal" reboot, when I upgraded GMaps from 3.0.1 to 3.0.2).

I have always (and still do) have Memory Cleaning set to Disabled.

For aftermarket apps, I have (and run):

WeatherBug
Google Maps
Trapster
Poynt
BerryTunes
Opera Mini
vlingo
stormSaber
Cisco Speed Test
