Default Anyone else's going in and out of 3G on AT&T?

Please Login to Remove!

Mine seems to be VERY slow in 3G, and will swap between 3G and EDGE constantly. It seems to happen regardless of where I am. I have pulled the battery a few times as well. It's an AT&T running .167. Every so often it'll get a lock on 3G and it's fast as can be, but most of the time im sitting there waiting in it.

I'm in a large metropolitan area with good 3G coverage and I haven't had any problems so far.

Yes, but that is common where I am, even on my connect card.

It's not the device. It's the service. This also happens to my iPhone and my Bold. I think as they add more coverage, it should improve. When I was in Houston I didn't have any problems.

I'm located in an area where any previous phone (iPhone, Samsung Blackjack II, Samsung Epix) I've had constantly loses 3G and reverts to EDGE due to the local terrain's interference with signal coverage. The Bold manages to hold a constant 3G connection with 4-5 bars more than half the time. As far as I can tell, I've never owned a more reliable 3G-enabled device.

New Bold owner, picked it up last night. I live in the Providence, RI area, and have yet to see it drop from 3G. Good, strong, fast connection.

My Nokia N95 and Tilt had none of these issues. Oh well, i'll chalk it up to it being a new device. Honestly, that's would never be a reason for me to go back to something else. I absolutely LOVE this device.

What you need to do is set the Bold to 3G only. It will not switch back and forth between 3G and 2G and your battery will last longer.

were you asleep the last 3 months? can't force 2G on the ATT bold!

this thing is HORRID... I'm in San Francisco CA and watching the bars standing absolutely still.. it goes 1 BAR, 2 BARS, 3 BARS, 4 BARS, then 1 BAR... and 3G and Edge go back and forth, almost always on edge even right by a tower... and I have even seen GSM a few times.

The only redeeming factor is at home it's on WIFI and email\bb msnger\corporate messenger\jivetalk through wifi makes the battery last way way way way longer! WOW!

Mine has been pretty solid and stable when I have it on. On .168.

Mine is rock solid on 3G all day long. The only time it drops down to EDGE is when I leave the 3G area.

I'm here in a suburb of Atlanta (Kennesaw) and it's been 5 bars of 3G every time I look down it seems. I think I have noticed once or twice it being EDGE over the last 3 days that I've had it.

It got quote a bit better today for some odd reason. It's gotta be the network. I don't blame the device at all, I blame the network in the area. At work mine steps in and out of 3g, but at home it's been fairly stable this evening.

Clearly what he meant is that there is no option to manually force 2g/3g with the AT&T bold. The menu option just isn't there.

Wirelessly posted

Okay, I'm using a Rogers Bold and it does give you that option. I was not aware that option does not exist on the ATT issued Bold.

The Bold has been better in sparse coverage areas. I did drop a few times where I've never (because I was on 3G and it failed to handoff to 2g) dropped but I expect that to be resolved very shortly. Network guys are already on it.

I'm in the Bay Area and depending on where I'm standing in the house. I can get solid 3G or solid EDGE. Or sometimes it shows about a -96 on 3G but still kicks over to EDGE. Very annoying!

Mine only kicks down to edge when i tend to go out of the 3G areas , and their online maps tend to be somewhat accurate. Though lately it has been going in and out, but that's just ATT still trying to get their network to work decently out here, I'm in socal. Otherwise, when im home, solid 3G, and Very very fast!
