IT Policy Rejected Error
Please Login to Remove!
I'm trying to connect Blackberry 7520's to the BES server and I get the following error, "IT Policy was rejected so activation has been cancelled. Clear your handheld and retry.
History: BES server was replaced over the weekend and all the phones that were on the old BES server get the above error, all the new phones that were activated after the new BES server came online work. Hope this helps.

Master Radio Reset
1. If I do a Master Radio Reset will I be able to install a new IT Policy afterwards?
2. Will I lose data on the handheald?
3. Is there a defualt password? A password was never installed and when I try to do a master reset it says blank password cannot be used.

Did you use a different SRP on the new BES? If so, that's your issue. All handhelds will need to have a security wipe done (Security Options > click trackwheel and choose Wipe Handheld) then reactivated.

It appears the old IT Policy from the old BES server is still in the phones and need to be removed. Would you agree?
Question is how do I go about doing this?

Can I somehow go back into the old BES Server and retrieve the IT Policy?

If the database is still there, you can export it then import it. RIM has a KB article on doing so (search for migrating). If not, you can just rebuild the policy, do a security wipe on the handhelds, and reactivate.

Don't want to lose data
I don't want to lose data on the handsets. I know Outlook will recover but they have allot of personal phone numbers and radio numbers that aren't in Outlook and its important this information isn't lost.
I also don't want to do a backup to a desktop on all the handsets either, I know thats an option but it sounds like allot of work which I don't feel like doing.
Just looking for a way to get the old IT Policy off the handsets so I can connect them to the BES server.

There's no way to get the old policy off the handhelds without doing a security wipe, unfortunately. Take that for what its worth.

I'll take your word for it
So if I do a reset I can then use the phone with BES? I would rather not do a security reset, have the handheld after with no data and not not be able to connect to the BES server again. That would make the phone completely useless.

a security wipe simply removes all non-OS data from the handheld and leaves the IT Policy open for overwriting. it is the only means to put a new policy on there. you won't lose applications that are already installed (even 3rd party apps) - just data. it should be able to recover all data, as you mentioned, from Outlook/Exchange except Profile settings, added ringtones/images, various other application options/settings (such as backlight timeout, etc), phone logs, quick call logs, etc. you can do a manual backup/restore for this data.

i've found this to be true also. only way to handle this is to backup the data, wipe, reactivate, restore data.
hope you dont have too many users. i have 160 to move. well my service desk does, hehehe.

Ours worked under 4.1.3 w/HF by doing a wipe from the BES Wirelessly and it automatically fixed the problem and everything was still there. We didn't need to see the phone at all.

you mention doing a wipe from the bes, which function or what locaton is this under, all i can see is wipe handheld and disable device

We have done alot between now and then. iirc, we seleected "Erase Data and Disable Handheld"
then we selected "Set Activation Password" and typed in a password
The user went to "Options", then "Advanced" followed by "Enterprise Activation".
They typed in their e-mail address then the password we gave and the process of syncing started.

Fair enough , sorry I was under the impression you could do it without user intervention and without having to wipe the device at all,
