I'm interested in buying a wifi capable BB to use only as a Slacker player without a contract of any kind. I have read threads where others, who have a contract, can remove their SIM card and the Slacker player as well as some other wifi application continue to work. This might not be true for a BB that isn't on any kind of service. I'm not even sure you could install Slacker in the first place without a contract. I know this seems silly but I really want a portable Slacker or Pandora player but I am not impressed with the Slacker brand player or it's price. I figure if I could pick up a hand-me-down BB or buy a used one I would have a pretty cool device to use soley as a Slacker player.

Anyone tried this before?

I have ab 8320 with tmo and everything about slacker works well for me except that when I have wifi connected, my slacker has never gotten past the buffering stage...I turn wifi off, and it works fine over the mobile connection. From what I have read, you should be able to use wifi, but for some reason my slacker doesn't allow it.

I have only done my slacker install OTA through the data connection...not sure if they have a download to use with desktop manager.
