Question Unable to switch from Cellular to WiFi and get UMA (unless I power off)

Please Login to Remove!

On my blackberry 8320 on T-Mobile in US.

Problem: When I manually switch from Cellular to WiFi mode (by manipulating network connection options), UMA mode is not acquired (that is, the UMA indicator never appears, although all other network functions seem to switch over).

Workaround: If I power off and on the phone (using the display controls, not removing the battery), the UMA mode is then acquired on WiFi. This mis-behavior is fully repeatable (that is, the UMA acquisition has never worked for me under the circumstances described here).

I have not experimented with any sort of automatic switching.

Is this fixable?

Thanks,

Dave

I have the problem every once in a while and if I power cycle my router the problem goes away.

Thanks --- I'd actually observed this first at a T-Mobile hotspot (a Starbucks in the US), and not realized what was happening. I've since reproduced it on three other network locations. I'd not yet tried power cycling any of the involved routers.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find the power switch at Starbucks

From my experience they usually don't like it when I try to go behind the counter at starbucks to get to the back room where the switch is located.

You might need to exchange the phone if it is happening at multiple locations.

Sorry I couldn't be more useful.

I now realize there is a separate forum "wifi hotzone" where I should have posted this issue (or more correctly, read first the existing posts).

Very sorry for the posting to the incorrect forum group.

I do not immediately see how to delete this thread (I started), but if someone can, please do.

What do you see under UMA in Wifi Diagnostics, options, display mode=advanced, do you see a serving ganc/unc address?

I would possibly wipe/reinstall OS/apps and test before restoring backup , it's easy and may fix.

cheers

What OS do you have? On 4.2.2.180, I would sometimes have to coax the phone to connect to UMA. After I upgraded to 4.2.2.184, I only had to do this one time.
