Merging Tmo and Cingular isn't easily possible. However it would be interesting to see them try. ...and to see the resulting company.
...no, definitely not interesting. Prices would skyrocket, just like gas prices (with only 5 major companies, as opposed to about 20 that were around 15 years ago). {I don't mean to sound snappy here }

As far as Verizon creation, I do recall that Vodafone was somehow involved in the merger as well.

Prices would probably go up especially because Tmo is a price leader in most cases and especially with BIS BlackBerries.

Verizon will purchase and acquire Qwest at some point in the next 2 years, with the full acquisition and merging taking place over the next 4 years. Aside from Qwest, there are no other companies left to acquire from the roots of the old Ma Bell, and thus we'll have Verizon/MCI and AT&T/SBC left to battle it out for surpemecy in the telecommunications world.

...or something like that.

Some of the more "out of the box" rumors I have heard regarding potential T-Mobile purchasers:

Vodafone
Apple
Disney/ESPN/ABC

TMO sitn going anywhere. TMob USA is one of DTs strongest divisions. Hence why I invested in them. Too bad they are down about 3% for me lately :(

Not since AT&T got their claws into them.

The way the FTC simply looks the other way these days, there will be more break-ups of monopolies within the next decade. Guess they gotta figure it'll give some future administration something additional to (un)do.

Now I'm lost, I thought ATT merged with SBC which is a different company from Bell South. Did I miss something?

It hasn't closed. So AT&T has not done anything to BLS yet...

Default Cingular

I thought I heard some where that AT&T was buying the Cingular. I know that AT&T owns 50% of Cingular shares. Can anyone confirm this?

CT

AT&T has 65% ownership in Cingular (as aquired when SBC purchased AT&T) and Bell South owns the other 35%. This is why AT&T is trying to buy Bell South, they will own 100% of Cingular and be able to change the name to acheive the total cutomer solution in the brand (Phone, wireless, data and soon TV).

All I really want to know is, if AT&T would buy TM, can I finally get a stable IM solution, BIS upgrade, and OS upgrade? Damn already Cingular!!

Gawd, I actually had primeco service when I worked for Albertsons because we sold their phones. We got 500 anytime minutes and unlimited weekends for $20 bucks per month. That was ten years ago, I kept the plan and verizon still honors it as long it stays paid up. That is my 10 year olds phone, I will keep than plan till my grave

The phonescoop story which someone linked to traces back to a July 2005 Wall Street Journal article. Either this is dated or it is linked to the wrong story.
