All of a sudden email attachments on my blackberry bold 9900 stopped working. I haven't loaded a new OS or changed anything on my phone. My connection to the internet is working and I can go to the browsers and surf the web and get new email. However when I open an email with a picture or a an attachment, the little red clock icon in the upper right hand corner just stays. it never goes away and the attachment is never opened or downloaded. I am running OS 7.1.0.342. Any suggestions or help?

All e-mail attachments? Have you tried sending yourself an e-mail with an attachment, and then try downloading.

An Attachment, or embedded picture has the red x? Are you in an area where there is coverage?

Have you tried a battery pull? That sometimes works wonders.

just went through similar, ended up resending service books and after a battery pull attachments works.

I do have coverage. I have tried both opening and downloading pictures, word docs, excel docs (yes have documents to go) and nothing opens. There is just the red clock or X or whatever it is in the upper right hand corner. Yes i have coverage. I have tried it both using Wifi and cellular and have checked immediately before and after trying to download internet connection by surfing the web on the web browser and i do have internet connectivity. I tried resending the service books and did a battery pull today (had tried it before too) and that didn't work. Any other suggestions?

Blackberry relies on the mail still being on the server. If you look in WebMail, do you still see the mail with the attachment in the inbox? What is your mail provider (gmail, hotmail..)?

What do you mean by if i look on webmail? If you mean when I got to the web to get my mail, yes the attachment is there and i can download it on a PC. I have both AOL and Gmail and also have tried it on my att.blackberry.net email address (carrier is ATT). The attachments won't download (doesn't matter what it is jpg, xls, doc, ppt- have documents to go). But if i go on my PC i can download the attachments on my computer no problem.

I guess you have to remove your gmail, aol and att accounts from your Blackberry and recreate them. I can't think of anything else.

This is my first post and you guys are my last rescue!
Have the same problem with my CEO's BB 9900 here. Everything is working fine except the attachments. What I already did:
1. Batterypull
2. Remove from BES and recreate user account
3. Complete Reset of BB
4. BB warranty change by our carrier and new activation.

Then, it works maybe 2 or 3 times and after, it's dead again. He's the only of our 60 BB Users in my company that has this problem.

The only thing I did every time was to restore his older E-Mail back to the BB because he need them daily...

@thalaima: Your problem is different from the original poster as he is on BIS and your boss is on BES. So you would probably get a better response if you had posted a new thread in the BES Admins section.

Anyhow, how exactly have you restored his older Email back to his device? This normally doesn't work as all emails need a link to the mails on the server in order to be able to open / forward attachments. If you just copy mails, this link is not there and you can't download attachments.

You are right. It's not exactly the same problem
I made i restore with BB Desktop manager. First a full backup and after a restore with selected options (call log, sms and messages) I did this many times before and it always worked well...

I guess you are doing the restore before the activation?

Japp, did it before the activation. in the meantime, I found another guy with the same problem. He was success with remove some, maybe defect, Servicebooks. I'll try this as soon as possible...

None of the suggestions have worked. I have deleted my emails, re-installed, pulled batteries, etc and nothing. I am going to re-install the OS and try that. Thanks everyone for the suggestions

I have the same problem

I have a good guess of what is causing the problem.

My guess is that since ATT has no devices with 7.1, there must be some compatibility problem with the service books. When I downgrade to 7.0, the problem goes away. When I try 7.1 again, the problem comes back.

I think that the problem will be solved once ATT releases 7.1 officialy.
