Question "User data migration" in 4.0 to 4.1 BES Exchange upgrade

BES for Exchange...

Those of use who've upgraded 3.6 to 4.1 know about one very irreversible step, where much of the BES data is stripped out of the BES service mailbox and populated to the SQL database. Kind of negates the ordinary recovery strategies in most enterprises, which is to just restore the server from the last backup.

Does this happen in 4.0 to 4.1? Or is the 4.0 data already in the SQL database?

The upgrade guide says nothing but to run setup.exe and follow the instructions on the screen. It doesn't mention any step where you hit a confirmation button and then your users are "migrated" one by one. But is there one?

Thanks

In 4.0.x to 4.1 there is no 'data stripped out of the BES service mailbox', the data is already in the db. However there are some changes to the db structure during the upgrade process..so backup backup backup. I always make sure that I have all the details to do a 'manual recovery' if need be..

Most peoples upgrade from 4.0 to 4.1 is relatively painless...but note that you used to need the 'paid' for upgrade as RIM decided that 4.0 to 4.1 should be charged for - i.e. just downloading the 4.1.4 from the BB website and installing that won't work. Contact T-support or your carrier for more info..

Default Results

It went smoothly and did not migrate. It didn't ask for relicensing either.

Thanks again.
