Default Stupid Inbox question

Please Login to Remove!

I haven't ran a BES server in a few years. But it seemed to me that before my BB had an exact copy of my Inbox.

If I moved an e-mail from the Inbox to a folder it would dissapear from the BB.

Is this no longer possible.

I have 1 user who gets alot of junk mail and he has a rule to forward it to another folder. When he looks in outlook his mailbox is fairly clean, but his 8830 still shows all the e-mails even after the mailbox has been reconciled manually from the BB.

Any tips would help

Thanks

Are the emails being moved to a folder on the xchange server? or a folder on a local machine?

If to a local machine the blackberry will not know what todo with the email and it will create a DB corruption

There is an option to "hide filed messages" on the BB.
Messages - Options - General Options - Hide filed messages

also make sure that the inbox subfolders are set to sync between the BB and the inbox. That can be done from the device or from the server.

Where on the device can the folders be set to sync between the BB and the inbox? Does that include the subfolders in the Inbox? I have several users that the Inbox/subfolders sync but two other where the subfolders do not sync.

Ensure that the rule he has set is a server side rule. So it should be moved to the junk mail folder directly. Right now it sounds like the emails are hitting his inbox first, which would result in them getting delivered to the handheld, and then moved.

I have seen some automated moves through Outlook not trigger a reconciliation before.

I am having the same problem as the original poster. I understand from the posts that I should move my messages to a folder on the Exchange server. That is great. I have made that change. (I was moving to local folders on my laptop hard drive).

So......now...how do I get rid of all those messages in my blackberry inbox??? Is there some way to force a new synchronization with my Exchange server?

Thanks,
-Matt

Matt - Welcome to the forums!

You could wipe / reactivate your handheld (after removing and re-adding the device from the BES Manager) ... unfortunately there is no real easy way to do what you want. You can't remove everything and then ask it to reset the sync status of the messages and have them repopulate. BES just doesn't work like that; sorry.

As was stated earlier, if you don't have "hide filed messages" set to Yes, you will still see all of your filed messages in your messages folder on the device.

Another setting that is a good idea is the "Hard Deletes Reconciliation=True". This will keep your BB in sync when users have rules that permanently delete items, when they use SHIFT+Delete in Outlook or if they move the messages to a PST file.

To change the "Hard Deletes Reconciliation" setting, go to the "Server Configuration" tab for your BES in Blackberry Manager. Click on "Edit Properties" and go to the "Messaging" properties. Make sure it is set to True, if not, change it and reboot the server for it to take affect.

This setting is available on BES 4.1.4, not sure about previous versions.

Thanks for the help!

I only had 100-150 messages, so I used "Caps" and the scroll ball to select lots of messages and delete by hand. Worked great.

The Hard Deletes Reconciliation looks to be exactly the functionality I want. It seems to be working properly with that set to True.
