Default Reading e-books?

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

My sister e-mailed a book to me (a pdf doc) but I'm so frustrated readoing it on my BB due to it not being able to open with "mobipocket" reader at all.

Is there some other "free" application e-book reader to be able to read with ease having bookmarks and things?

My sister was appalled at BB. :(

She tried downloading a couple of e-readers for me but all failed with BB.
She uses an HTC touch that work wonders for avid readers.

I tried convincing her but to no avail so I though of BB forum for help due to my lack of knowledge with regards to reading on ones BB device.

So I have come to the experts...

Let's get my sister to upgrade to BB in the near future too.

Many thanks

Isra

Isra, I've used the Amazon Kindle app for a few years now and love it. Not sure about it reading a PDF though. All the books I've read I've downloaded from the Amazon store.

Not sure at all about PDF files... I'd check App World for some PDF readers and check out the reviews before you pick one to try.

As for true e-books, I have a Barnes & Noble Nook, and as such, I've learned that B&N offers a FREE Nook Reader App for all of the leading smartphones. The only catch is BlackBerries... they no longer mention it on their Nook Reader Apps Page, because they have apparently stopped updating the Nook App for BB. You have to go to bn.com from your BB's Browser, and if it's available for your model, you'll get a download link. If it isn't, you'll be SOL. But if you can get your hands on it for your BB, it should work for all e-book formats supported by the Nook.

Thanks, is it a free app or would I have to buy it?

Many thanks, I tried that last night, but it didnt dectect my model and it also didnt have the dowload link.

:(

I'm now starting to give up.

Of recent I'm so busy that I don't get a chance to read books so I thought of reading e-books (which I dont really like as I love reading straight from hard copies) well what to do...

Anyway, thanks for your help.

It's a free app, yes. You can get it here: Amazon.com: Kindle for BlackBerry - Read Kindle eBooks on your BlackBerry. Highly recommended!

Thanks, I downloaded it without a problem but I cannot download books and read the samples at Amazon due to it being only for those in the US.

:(

So its not useful for me unfortunately.

Anyway, thanks for the info.

Sorry, apparently, we didn't know you weren't in the United States. What country ARE you in? Do they have their own localized version of Amazon? If so, have you checked the Amazon site for your country yet?

Go to this site calibre-ebook.com. Calibre is a program that will convert just about any e-book format to any other. Since I live outside of the US and Amazon will no longer sell me books and does not support Mobi any more, I have been forced to obtain all my books through other means and this program has enabled me to convert them to Mobi format and read them on my BlackBerry Torch.
