Usually a text message is 160 characters, spend time before the 9630 Tour still has the normal 160 characters, Bold 9780 is now used only 70 characters.

Who knows why and how to get 160 characters in a text message?

I dont see any options but the carriers can limit the number of characters as well as the number of multiple contacts for a single message. I would call and speak to a tier 2 person with the question. I suggest bypassing the initial help desk unless they have the answer and sound confident.

I dont read the language on their web site. Take a look and see if there is an explaination on it.

Change the coding in options to 7-bit; you probably have it set to UCS2 now.
