I have used and loved my Treo (a 700p now, but a couple before that) for some time. I use it with Verizon, my iMac Intel and Missing Sync. It is great...... However, the new 8830 is calling my name. I have come to think that RIM is on the right track and I am ready to convert. However, please help me off the ledge by answering the following questions:
1) I buy the 8830 from Verizon and can try it for 30 days
2) Verizon has no syncing capability with my iMac, but Missing Sync does have an answer I can buy.
3) iCal and address book will sync with the 8830 and Missing Sync
4) I will be able to access the internet, store pictures and documents on the 8830
I wouldn't try it until you specifically hear from VZW users. I've heard too many stories of them disabling various BB functions.
Missing Sync for your Palm is a mature product. Missing Sync for BB is, shall we say, rather immature. But you'll be eligible for cross-grade pricing. The last time I sync'd the Palm sync rescued my data which the BB sync borked. And you'll be free to use both sync applications.
I think you'll need to decide which is more important to you. Using VZW, or using a RIM product, FWIW.

Yes do yourself a favor get a GSM/EDGE service provider and then get yourself a real RIM BB device. Verizon cripples and takes control of options which force customers into paying for things which are included and should be easy and free on the device. I use RIM's (Pocketmac) with my 8100's (and my 8700's before that) and have no problems.

so far the only thing people see that verizon has cripple on the 8830 is the GPS which is a big one for some. Choose the carrier that has the best coverage in your area and if your happy with Verizon then the 8830 seems to be a good phone and the EVDO (data spped) definately is faster than the EDGE that I have. Overall Its just a phone and MissigSync will work the same regardless of the carrier you choose.
I use Pocketmac with my powerbook and cingular 8800c, and have no complaints other than I wish it had faster browsing but thats a cingular thing.

I just wanted to know if I should try the 8830 with Missing Sync on Verizon or will I experience too many difficult to solve problems which outweigh the benefits at this point? I am not sure where Activex fits in also......
i believe that the software they provide is windows only. just use missing sync and you'll be fine.
im thinking the post about activex was talking about RIM doing something platform independent. Totally off this topic for now but i'm sure they can make it happen.
