Default 83xx and WiFi

Please Login to Remove!

Just curious if anyone has found any info on what will be possible with the WiFi enabled 83xx units (and the 88xx with WiFi as well). Has there been any mention about anything other than browsing over WiFi, eg. has there been any talk of being able to sync with a BES via WiFi or make calls via a VoIP client like Skype or being able to sync up with a VoIP PBX that supports SIP?

I haven't seen anything stating this but am curious if anyone else has...

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8100/4.2.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

Yes then no. Will be made known when the official release is anounced. Before then it is educated speculation.

I think it's pretty obvious that if the 7270 supports SIP and WVoIP then the new WiFi RIM devices will do the same.

Obvious?? The 7270 was designed to be used for VoIP. In fact, it can't be used as a cell phone. It's a completely different story with the new models and you can bet that the carrier's aren't going to be supportive of VoIP on wireless devices that they offer unless they can get a piece of the pie (which would negate the major benefit of such a feature). I hope I'm wrong but I can't see it working out that way...

The 7270 was designed to work in a corporate, campus environment and not on the carrier (semi public) network. Two different animals.

Maybe I'm looking at it differently.

A wifi radio is a wifi radio. Cram one in a GSM/ GPRS device and now you have a two radio device.

Run some Corporate VoIP applications on it (already have it for the 7270) and you have a VoIP device. I don't care about Skype or Vonage personally.

It's not like it's reinventing the wheel or anything.
