Try JiveTalk. Best IM client out there right now. Well worth the $20 in my opinion.

Yes, but I don't recommend any of them.
You should check the Aftermarket Software forum for suggestions.

Well, the only other good program that is free is Ramble. You won't get it working on the first try though (most of the time). Do a search to get more information about it.

Otherwise, JiveTalk is the best one there is. I am planning to buy it myself soon.

I've been using IM+ for several years, and I have no complaints with it. It is, however, more expensive than Jivetalk. If Jive had been available when I bought IM+, I probably would have taken the less costly approach.

Why wouldn't you use Oz which is a free download off of Media Net from AT&T?

Probably because Oz doesn't use data for messaging. It uses SMS.
Also, I believe Oz limits the amounts of contacts you can have in your buddy list.

I just downloaded JiveTalk and it's amazing. I've been waiting for a client like this for years.

SMS is text messages. Some Instant Message programs use SMS, as opposed to DATA, which applies against your BlackBerry Data Plan, the kilobytes or megabytes of data you use on the BB, or unlimited plans.

Wow, this thread should be a commercial for JiveTalk!

*It's true, though, JiveTalk has 'em all beat.
