Default Curve Movies

Do you have to take the memory card out and hook it up to a reader to get movies on the phone? Or can you do it straight through the phone's USB jack?

You can do it either way.
Just enable Mass Storage Mode on the device.

In my experience, using an external media card reader is faster than using the BlackBerry itself. YMMV.

I've always used the external reader, and its faster. Its just a hassle with the curve having to take out the batter to get to the card. I had the pearl prior and it was alot more convenient.

Wirelessly posted (at&t BlackBerry 8310)

Although it takes longer to do, I just use the usb cable to transfer music and such. I'm constantly adding new things to my memory card that it would be too much of a hassel for me to use the card reader. But to each their own.

What are the speed comparisons of a card reader vs. high-speed USB 2.0 connection through BB?

I've always heard everyone say card reader is faster, but how much faster?

One is slow and the other is slower.
