Default Changing Default web browser

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All,

I have got rid of my BIS account and am using standard data through my provider. That all works fine, I use Opera web browser and Gmail instead of the Blackberry browser and email client.

However, when I click on an OTA install link, I always get pushed back to the default Blackberry browser (which is not there any more as I don't have BIS) and complains about the service book entry.

Is there any way to have Opera as my default browser when I click on an OTA install is say my gmails? Do I need some service book entry to do this?

Thanks,
Bernie

No. The BB Browser is always the default and a must have to download OTA files.

I've heard the new skyfire browser (in alpha testing) will allow you to set it as the default browser, but as of now, default will always go back to the bb or internet browser, whichever is set as default in browser options.

Well I don't have that option, because when you close your BIS account they remove the browser ... I do not want ot pay the extra $35/month just to have BB browser for OTA install ... there must be a better way.

Without a BIS account I cannot set up a default browser in options. I go to Options/Advanced/Browser and it states "Default browser configuration:" that's all, I cannot enter any text in that page to set the default browser.

Any other idea's? Or hass BB got me by the BB's

Wirelessly posted (Tmo's cheapest BB customer)

Unfortunately there isn't much you can do about that. Your only two alternatives are using wifi (bb browser should work) if your device has it, or hope that the program you want to install comes in alx/cod format.

The BlackBerry device was designed for use with a BlackBerry data plan - either BES (corporate) or BIS (personal). Your choice not to have either means some of the basic "built in" functionality won't work... without arguing the merits of data plan vs no data plan, you are choosing to use the device in a way that is different from its intended use. Period. End of story. Simply stated, it is what it is.

Wirelessly posted (Its All About the U!)

As the others stated you are rather limited from getting any OTA links. Its hard to offer any productive suggestions to you without a plan.

Nope. You can use the app loader in Desktop Manager. No OTA installs without a BB data plan.

Check the FAQ first next time:
