Just point your friend Dave at >>this page<<. Hey, if it was good enough for Dirk Benedict in the A-Team, and if he's truly a friend, then he'll help make your life easier.

Instead of using the Custom Word List, hoe about going into auto text and having it replace "face" with "Dave". Of course, then you would have the problem in reverse everytime you want to type the word "face"

Suretype will learn which one you want (face or Dave) very quickly. It will recognize that you went and delted face then typed in Dave. After a few times it will start suggesting Dave first then face second. When I had my 7103e suretype learned my style withen a few days but my biggest problem was the 3 letter words. It would be incorrect with those most of the time.

I had the same thing happen when I tried to type Dave, i got Face.

Compose a new email...

Type Dave it will write face. erase face and type dave again, it will type dave this time. Do this about 4 or five times, and it will start suggesting Dave first.

Not that tough...

Problem solved.

That usually works, but for grins I just tried it. I had typed it about 10 times and it was still coming up "face". At least "Dave" was the next suggestion in the list so it didn't take more than a quick flick of the finger to switch from "face" to "Dave".

If you type your name a lot, then add a custom autotext that maps "d" to "Dave" (Specified case) and then not only can you type your name with one letter, but it will capitalize itself without having to use the shift key. Using just the "d" also avoids the problem with not having a way to type "face" later when you need to.

"d" is the default character that appears when I hit my df key, but I don't know if that is due to the way my SureType engine has been trained by my typing. Hit the "df" key on yours first and verify what gets output by default before you set up the autotext mapping...

It's not problem solved, it is THE tradeoff with suretype. Cause then when you want to use the word "face" it'll use Dave and you'll have to delete it and retype it. This is true for any words that use the same keys. Most common in 3 letter words but I've found 5-6 letter words that suffer from this. This tradeoff is fine for some users (like my wife) but others (like me) will be going to the 8800 when it comes out cause suretype gets under my skin after awhile. Though not enough that I would go back to an 8700.

The many Daves of Dave - the reason Suretype isn't for everyone. I don't like it cause of this reason and even a spell checker won't fix these types of errors since the words are are both ok. Thus, you need extra attention.
