I work for a comapny with 1300+ employees. I have about 180 BES users on 1 BES Server. There are 2 back-end Exchange server and 1 Front-End. Oh yea, we have 80 offices across the country as well. There is my boss, then the CIO. We handle everything except programming, websites and reporting my department.
I have 6 years professional experience and have a CCA (citrix) cert only. I have the full skillset for MCSE and CCNA, and likely CCNP however. I just don't believe in paper certs.
I''m the senior systems/network guy, and there are 3 level II and 2 Level I technicians. They are primarily help-desk type guys, but 2 of the level II dudes are being tailored to assist with network operations (primarily) and the other as a general backup to me.
I do it all. BES, Exchange, Windows, Network, open offices, purchasing (not blackberry handles, but other equipment). I'm in the 70-79k range in this poll AND there's another 5 guys under me and 1 over me to account for.
In another company, I could be the ONLY guy doing all this work (same workload) and be making less, the same, or maybe more. It really comes down to how the company values their people and how much they value KEEPING them. I've been here 3 1/2 years, and the 3 level 2's are all 3+ years now. The 2 level I's are 1 year. My boss is going on 5 years. The retention rate is high because the company knows they have good people, wants to keep them, and treats them well.
