Default DM Update notice

Please Login to Remove!

Not long ago, I updated DM to 5.0 and the device software to 4.6.0.297. When I started DM today, the update dialog asked me if I wanted to essentially update everything on my device: system software, core applications, attachment service, messenger, Google Maps, etc -- just about everything.

1. Should I?

2. Before you proceed, DM notes "Once complete, you must activate your device wirelessly to continue to send and receive email messages and use other Blackberry services. If you do no want to continue..." What does it mean...activate your device wirelessly? I canceled since I couldn't figure this out.

3. For a system software update, they must be talking about V4.6.0.304. This is not on my hard drive. Will DM automatically download and install it?

Thanks for helping sort this out.

1. If you want.
2. it means getting your service books sent to your phone. This usually happens anyway, but if it doesnt, you just send them yourself.
3. Yes, DM connects to the internet, to RIM with your carrier code and OS no, then finds if there is a newer released software and displays it.

It can take a long time to download the files from RIM, so if you just download the OS and update with it, its saves time.

Thanks DRaven. Couple more questions.

1. I have 4.6.0.297 on my PC HD. Should I uninstall it before before I download and install .304 on the HD?

2. And before I run .304 to put it on the device, should I wipe the device? I notice that many here wipe their device before they install a new OS. Some wipe using the device, some JLCmd. Thanks.

1. yes

2. i dont see the need. you can have it backup data, and wipe data and installed apps before restoring them. i never do it, never had a problem.
