well I had to reboot the domino server last night due to some antivirus upgrades and the system decided to send 82689 APB to one of the directors. Luckily there BB was off so I could at least try and purge them but they are seriously loosing patients with me and blackberry. SP2 had better resolve this issue or I can see our company throwing BB out of the window.

sorry to go side bar, but has anyone installed BES Alerts remotely. Kind of defeats the purpose if the server goes down, and I can't get an alert?

I think. Or maybe I'm thinking too much....

my exchange went down yesterday and no one bothered to give me a call, well actually my bb users gave me a call...

lots of them.

it wasn't pleasant.

I use the BES Alerts to send me an E-Mail each time an error occurs, it works pretty well. The strange thing is that it stopped working for a while, then I put HF1 for SP1 on it and it started working.

Post you can disable it in the Windows Registry

Until you have de SP2 you can disable this alerts modifying the Registry in this Way:

1. Open regedit.exe.
2. In the left pane, browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Research In
Motion\BlackBerry\Server
3. Right-click Server, and then create a DWORD value called
"DisableFailedNotify"
4. Double-click the new value.
5. Set the value to 1
6. Click OK.

I hope this help you,

Best Regards.

I believe that was the registry fix for BES version 2.2. I have received this fix from RIM after escalating the problem through one of our reps. I am cautious to say that it works (though it looks good so far), but I'd be interested to see if it resolves the APB issue for anyone else. At this point I have very little confidence that SP2 will solve the problem or be released within my lifetime, so a workaround that works would be just fine by me.

1.** Open up the registry editor
2.** Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Research In Motion\BlackBerry EnterpriseServer\Agents
3.** Delete the key “DataDirectory” in the right hand pane
4.** Restart Server

*

This will disable the APB subsystem from starting when you load the BES task.

I just got off the phone with RIM and I am they have a registry hack that should fix the problem for 4.0. I hope I am not repeating something that has been posted. I am also not sure if this is for Exchange. Regardless here is the link.

This fix did not work for me....actually since I have applied this I have actually received more APB's for my users....how the hell does that happen. This is a mess. I used the one that tells you to delete the DataDirectory that is talked about above. I didn't try the fix that alopez posted. Anyone else tried this?

This fix did not work for me either. I finally got this problem escalated to the RIM development team for resolution. My thinking is that if I can get this registry fix to stop the APBs, I'm not going to upgrade to SP2 until I'm 100% sure it's not going to cause some larger secondary issue. I'll be sure to post any fix that RIM provides me since I know that there are a lot of people who are feeling the same pain.

Here was the deal for me.....I just got off the phone with RIM support. There is 2 windows folders that you need to clear out as well as the registry hack. And there is an updated registry hack as of yesterday....but it is only a reg hack for SP2...and SP2 has not been released...so not sure what the hell they are doing...here is the link if you want to look at it:

http://www.blackberry.com/knowledgec...44503&vernum=2

As far as the Windows folders....Navigate down through whatever drive you installed BES on...for ex. C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\Blackberry Enterprise Server, and go into the Agents folder and then APBData folder. Delete anything in this folder. Now you need to go into the Install location for Domino....navigate to where you have your Domino Data directory. Go into the BES folder and then APB folder. Delete everything out of this folder. Restart your server and it appears we are not receiving an APB's now. We were getting about 100 APB's as soon as we started Domino and BES and the last restart after we did this no APB messages were sent out. I have my fingers crossed that this continues to work...

They also verified that SP2 would have some functionality to turn APB's on and off. We will see.

Hope this helps...I know this is probably the #1 complaint for BES Admins....what a headache!!!

Unfortunately, I attempted to delete the APB folder under the Domino directory and the BES recreates it automatically. I even went as far as writing a script to delete the folder as soon as it's created, but the BlackBerry programming people must be smarter than me since the folder is created, the APB is sent, and then my script deletes the folder. I just can't win. I will check out the revised registry change and see if I have any luck. Thanks.

This is getting absolutely redikulous. I thought it was working great until I received an APB yesterday. :(

mahoward....did you delete the msgs out of both of the APB folders for BES and Domino? How long did your environment not see a APB msg before you got one yesterday? Just curious.

As you can see, the APB's at my firm follow a "wheel of death" where they double until they get into the many thousands, and then suddenly and for no apparent reason drop off again, only to climb back up each day.

On 8/9, I implemented the new new reghack fix by renaming the directory entry. I thought this fixed it b/c I didn't see any APB's upon startup, so I was satisfied. But then I got one a couple days later, looked at the logs, and saw that others did too.

So then yesterday I applied the extended remix reghack above, and I am still seeing APB's. However, I notice looking at the trend that they dropped off significantly after my first attempt on 8/9, and haven't shown the exponential growth pattern they had before. Is this a cruel joke, is it just teasing me? No idea, but for the last 5 days I haven't had over 14 APB's per day, which is bearable if not fully acceptable.

We'll see what happens, but I will not be satisfied until I can shut these things off FOR GOOD. SP2 WHERE ARE YOU?!!?
