Default BB noob//wifi only

Please Login to Remove!

I dropped my new Android recently and smashed the screen. A friend had an older BB that wasn't being used and gave it to me.

All I typically use my phone for is photos, calls, texts and FB/email when in a wifi hotspot. From the research I've just done, it sounds like the BB isn't a good option for me as I don't have a data plan and don't plan to buy one. I get that BBs are a class all their own and realize that most of the features would go to waste with me... I just don't want to shell out the $300 Rogers wants to charge me to replace my phone, since my contract was renewed too recently and I'd gotten a new phone that time.

Or am I misunderstanding something? Is a BB actually "for me"?
Thanks so much!

You are correct. You need a Blackberry data plan for email, Internet, FB, etc, even via wifi.

Maybe try eBay to find another phone that better fits your needs.

Look into a used Nokia E71. I used on on T-Mobile with the $4.99 TZones "lite" data plan and it was pretty slick. BlackBerry form factor, decent keyboard (but clearly not the equal of a BB keyboard) and an overall rock solid device. Plus no requirement to get a data plan if you just want to use hotspots for data connections.

You might also look into an old Motorola Q. They run Windows Mobile up to v6.1 and they're very solid devices.
