Well, let's try this way, then:
Since I'm unable to download the Installation Instructions PDF, would anyone here be willing to take that file, and cut & paste the complete text into a post here?!?
I'll probably be able to figure it out if I can read those instructions, I just can't get them to open for me.

That's it, I give up! >=(
That's it, I give up! I am SO done with this OS update!!!
Here's the latest developments: Several days ago, I talked to a nice young lady at Nextel's Blackberry Tech Support Dept. She walked me through the process of doing a complete, clean uninstall of all the BB Desktop and Handheld software on my PC. After all traces of the programs were removed, I then reinstalled the DT Manager, using this new Service Pack 1. I then reinstalled the newest OS. Then, last night, I backed up all my data on the handheld, linked it up, and used the DT Manager to A) completely remove all data from the handheld, B) completely reinstall the OS and radio software WITHOUT restoring my user data. I then restored my data from my backup.
I am STILL having the SAME problems with the web browser I've been having all along with this new OS. I haven't experienced a lockup yet since doing this latest install last night, but it's probably only a matter of time.
At this point, I'm rolling back to 4.0.0.249, and STAYING there until the NEXT OS update. Let me know when that arrives, will you? I won't be trying again until then.

Anyone else seeing these little annoyances?

Upgrading OS ...
I'm in the process of upgrading now as i read this thread. Based on the generally positive feedback, I decided to take the plunge. I've been at it about 30 minutes so far. It is in the process of restoring my data from the backup that was made when I first started. I'm praying that my third party apps are restored as well. If not, I have them on my home pc and can put them back this evening.
I'll follow up when the process is complete.

When I upgraded, everything was put back onto the BB, except for bblight.

Upgrading OS... .
It looks like it's finished. Time elapsed: ~ 1 hour. Message on DM says "8 of 9 options completed." The BB 's on the Nextel screen now... . I have about 45 minutes before I have to head out to Union Station to catch my train...

I'm in the middle of upgrading to the new OS, everything seems fine so far (i'm at the final stage of "Restore handheld data"). I made the mistake of forgetting to make a backup before I did this so I'm crossing my fingers.
The upgrade seemed pretty straight forward. The DM version I had was .29 (i think) so I upgraded to .33 then used SP1, then ran the 4.0.2 install. Connected my blackberry and ran the DM. The DM knew I wanted to update my BB, read all the applets from it and told me what it was installing (new OS and the old programs I had on it) and I just next'ed it through.

Louder? Like ringer is louder? If so, I may need to "injure" my 7520 so it needs "replaced". Louder must be hardware, not software. Hmmm.

It is a proprietary ID for Blackberry devices in which they can communicate with servers and other Blackberries.
There was a point where a lot of people weren't even using the e-mail abilities of the device and would simply PIN back and forth. Originally I think, for e-mail on the Blackberries, (old pager style and data only devices) you used the redirector that would just allow your phone to get your mail over the PIN network. Now with BES, e-mail is live, but the PIN network is still used for all communication between the devices and the servers.
Think of it as SMS but only for blackberries. (Also SMS messags typically cost money and PINs are included in your data plan)
If you have a device that can run OS 4, you can install the Blackberry messenger which gives you an interface similar to yahoo or AIM where you can send messages to your blackberry buddies.
For me, I don't think I'd want my PIN out in the open, like what a lot of people here do. The last thing I need is to make an enemy who has a BB and my PIN.

Fingers Crossed
Ok now that I am completely scared to upgrade, I just got the new software and will give it a go tomorrow at work.
What are the alleged benefits?
