Default Updates that don't

Please Login to Remove!

Hi,

I've just setup a new BBerry user with Desktop Manager 5.0. When I start DM, I'm told there are updates available, but when I click "Install these updates now," I'm told there are no updates available. If I can't install the available updates, then I'd just as soon not have DM check for updates when it starts, but I can't find an option to turn off update checking. Where might I find this option?

I've had this experience once. I believe I updated on a netbook and then got the notice from DM when I connected to the desktop. I didn't cancel; I click run or install or what ever and the computer "thought' for a moment and was done. I don't remember exactly, but DM either went back the regular screen or the special screen and said not updates available. Whatever it didn't prompt me after that. And there's another thread in the past week or two on same subject, and another who had same experience. I think if you cancel you'll see the prompt again and again.

I see the prompt every time whether I cancel Install or Cancel. If I click Install, DM quickly shows a few screens, then tells me that there are not updates available. Next time I start DM, the cycle repeats.

See if you can find that other thread. One reply advised deleting some file.... I'll. See if I can find it and post the link.

You should also be able to uninstall DM and when you reinstall elect to have it not check for updates, right?

I did search for update threads but found nada. I'd be very grateful if you could refer me to it.

As a last resort I can uninstall/reinstall, but it's a big deal because I won't be back on site for several weeks.

For what it's worth, take a look at this.

aiharkness, Ive done exactly the same, and it does still come up.
Ive also installed using the "uncheck check for updates etc" and it still doesnt work.
To not get the prompt you need to NOT be connected to the internet.

REgardless of if the OS on the PC, desktop manager still connects over the internet to RIM with the info from the phone about carrier and model, and finds any OS's. Despite being completely up to date, it still *thinks* you need to update core programs.

Ok. I don't get it, but ok..... I've only had the one instance that I mentioned.

So there is no confusion, I did get the checking for updates window at one time, followed by the there-are-no-updates message, which I would have to acknowlege, I think. It would not say I had an update; just checking for updates, then there are no updates. But I'm going to have to pay attention because with 5.0.1 I don't remember seeing the there-are-no-updates message, just checking for updates, and then the window closes, without me having to acknowledge (unless I'm imagining it).

Well, that's depressing, but thanks for the heads-up.

Yup. No probs.
Its a case of just having to deal with it until someone out there works out a true way other than disabling your internet.

Not that I doubt Draven, but I would try anyway. It can't hurt. I just have this general sense of variability after years on the forum. It maybe didn't work for Draven, and may not work for 9 out of 10 people, but it isn't going to hurt for you to try. Just move that file to a temporary folder, just in case.

Yup, already done it. Won't have a chance to try it until tonight.

Alright. Remember, no gold start if you don't post an update.

Sadly, I had the same experience as MidnightDraven. Update prompt still comes back each time I start DM 5, regardless of whether I press Install or Cancel. The result of pressing Install is to check again for updates, then say that there are none after all.

I'll pass on removing/reinstalling DM and unchecking "Check for updates" because MD has already done that. To paraphrase Einstein, "One indicator of craziness is to continually repeat an act and expect different results."

Just have to live with it for now.

I appreciate people taking the time to respond.
