Default Black Berry Maps and Google Maps

Please Login to Remove!

I have a fairely new 9700, I tried downloading Blackberry Maps, it said unsupported, when I call AT&T they said it wasnt available yet, she claimed she talked with RIM while I was on hold (Advanced Support) I think it was the toilet paper dept- She also said Google doesnt have maps available for the new op system 5.0

When I went to the RIM Site or Owners Lounge it gave me a link but said it only works with 4.1 or 4.2 OS

Any one have some bright ideas?

Google Maps works fine on a 9700 with AT&T running 5.0. You got some bad information.

there are a few threads on this topic already. just search. bbmaps should already be installed on your phone. ATT is just hiding it. open this link in your BB browser and install the file. it will add the icon.

We all know that even though the icon for BB maps is no where to be found, the program is still on the phone. GLN has made a free app that gives you an icon to launch BB maps that is not service book dependent. Here's the link. http://www.gln.bz/ads.nsf/bbmapslaunch.jad

Enjoy.

This link doesn't always work. It is for the older 4.1 and 4.2 OS. At times it will, but the first time service books are sent, the phone is re-registered or you upgrade the OS. The icon will be gone again.

Interesting Question, First AT&T says it isnt available, then they removed the link to the program, Why are they doing this, they claim their Customers are very important to them, is it important to them that they also lie to their customers as well?
Anyone have any ideas why they removed the Icon that launches the program?

yes. its because ATT wants you to pay for their ATT Navigator app. and BB Maps competes with it and is free. so they simply remove it and hope that it will cause more people to pay for their app. Bastards! i wonder why they dont block google maps...

It could be worse. They just make it hard to get BB Maps, not impossible everything else is easy to download. Some carriers go a step further and completely disable the GPS so it doesnt take up there data band width.

I doubt they lied to you. They are just usually really poorly informed about all things Balckberry. That is what the forum is here for.
